Why was Young Thug’s denied bond in RICO case? Fans say ‘He'll be there way past Jan’
Young Thug, who was arrested last month on RICO charges along with 27 other associates, has been denied bond after Judge Ural Glanville said that he believed that the rapper was a danger to the community and could intimidate witnesses if released. The Atlanta rapper, whose real name is Jeffery Williams, attended the hearing from Cobb County Jail via Livestream.
The 30-year-old hip-hop artist was charged in a 56-count indictment on May 9. Young Thug’s next trial at the court is expected to be on January 9, 2023, as announced by the judge. Apart from Young Thug, rappers like Gunna, Yak Gotti, YSL Duke, and others were also named in a conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act and participation in criminal street gang activity.

Young Thug denied bond in RICO case
Judge Ural Glanville in his announcement said, as reported by Variety, “There has been significant proffers about Mr. Williams being a danger to the community.” He continued, “In particular, the state’s proffer that they have taken proffers from other gang members people who are in this particular indictment and others who are not in this indictment that he is the leader of the gang, he is dangerous and if he crosses them he’ll kill them or their families.”
For the unversed, Young Thug was initially denied bond on May 23. In the latest hearing, Machine Gun Kelly and 300 Entertainment co-founder Kevin Liles both provided testimony to the court extending their support to the rapper. In the RICO case associated with YSL, all 28 defendants were charged with conspiracy to violate RICO. Thug and Gunna’s fellow defendants also face charges including armed robbery, aggravated assault, drugs, and weapons charges. Additionally, Yak Gotti and four others were charged with murder for the January 2015 death of Donovan Thomas, Jr., who was “a rival gang member", as per prosecutors. Thug has also been accused of renting a car that was later used “in the commission of” the same murder.
