Conservative Fox News host Dan Bongino was permanently banned from YouTube for spreading misinformation around Covid-19. The 47-year-old political commentator behind highly popular shows like 'Unfiltered w/ Dan Bongino,' 'Canceled in the USA' and 'The Dan Bongino Show on Fox Nation', was suspended from YouTube a week ago on January 15, after one of his videos was flagged for containing false facts and information on Covid-19. He reportedly remarked that face masks are "useless" in containing the spread of Coronavirus — a claim that has been scientifically proven wrong. Bongino apparently tried to maneuver a way around his temporary account suspension and ended up with the permanent ban.

Bongino's YouTube ban coincides with music streaming giant Spotify's decision to boot veteran musician Neil Young from their platform. Controversy after Young served an ultimatum to Spotify to take action against anti-vaxxer Joe Rogan'spopular podcast where he notoriously spreads Covid misinformation. The two incidents divided the internet, with many recalling YouTube's earlier ban on episodes of The Joe Rogan Experience. Recently, Rogan's episode with Dr Robert Malone was taken down on YouTube, as the renowned vaccine scientist equated vaccine mandate to Nazism.

In the case of Dan Bongino, the right-winger faced the ax from YouTube after he breached the suspension period to upload a video titled 'Why I'm Leaving YouTube'. In the video, he supposedly announced his decision to switch to Rumble, where his show has more than 2 million subscribers already. On YouTube, Bongino had around 871,000 subscribers.

However, his attempt to break the suspension resulted in a permanent ban, as YouTube reacted quickly to boot him from their platform. Moreover, a spokesperson from YouTube further noted that Bongino will not be allowed to create a new account and no one can upload anything with his name in it. His channel Partner Program was removed earlier this month itself.

Bongino's ban upset many Conservative commentators including Brigitte Gabriel, all of whom took to Twitter to protest. "Now YouTube has permanently banned Dan Bongino — one of the most popular conservative stars around. Yet, the news media still pretend there’s no censorship of the right. Conservatives better wake up. The press never will," NewsBusters founder Brent Bozell noted.

Another user remarked, "Sorry Big Tech Dan Bongino is uncancellable the more you try the more his message gets out," while Brigitte Gabriel tweeted, "I stand with Dan Bongino! Rumble is the way forward."

Meanwhile, liberal Twitter celebrated Dan Bongino's ban while some imagined a face-off between him and Joe Rogan, both infamous for spreading "Covid Lies".

"Can Dan Bongino and Joe Rogan interview each other? The world would stop," a user tweeted, while another suggested, "I'll go even further and state that ALL media platforms MUST have or institute a COVID-19 disinformation policy. Wilful COVID liars such as Joe Rogan, Tucker Carlson and Dan Bongino don't deserve to have a voice on ANY platform, FULL STOP! If YouTube can do this, so can anyone!!"
