What happened in 'X-Men '97' Episode 5?
Episode 5 of 'X-Men '97' ended with a surprising attack on Genosha, the mutant nation, delivering a tragic climax.
While episode 4 focused on Storm and Forge, episode 5 brought the spotlight back to the rest of the team: Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, and Wolverine, who were dealing with a press tour at the X-Mansion.
Meanwhile, Magneto, Rogue, and Gambit headed to Genosha for its formal induction into the United Nations.
With just a few episodes left in season 1 of 'X-Men '97', episode 5 escalated the story significantly. The assault on Genosha by Sentinels will likely shape the narrative of season 2 and impact the remaining episodes of season 1.
Since Professor X is absent, the aftermath of the attack will likely burden Cyclops, particularly considering the apparent loss of several major characters in the shocking ending of episode 5 including Magneto and Gambit.
What to expect from 'X-Men '97' Episode 6?
In the next episode, titled 'LifeDeath – Pt 2', Storm might have to face her deepest fears to find freedom, atleast according to Epsiode 4.
While Jubilee's storyline dominates most of episode 4 of 'X-Men '97', the last part focuses on Storm and Forge. They're holed up at Forge's cabin, where he explains his powers to Storm and the audience. Forge, whose mutant abilities let him invent machinery without prior knowledge, believes he's created something to restore Storm's powers.
The sequence features stunning animation, especially when the two mutants ride horseback through the wilderness. 'X-Men '97' continues to target a mature audience, blending impressive art with advanced storytelling.
Storm is devastated when Forge's machine fails to restore her powers. Her distress deepens when Forge admits he played a role in creating power-dampening collars used in earlier episodes to control mutants. This technology erased Storm's powers in episode 2 of 'X-Men '97', explaining her reaction.
We expect 'X-Men '97' Episode 6 to focus entirely on Storm's journey to regain her powers, unlike the previous half-episode. She might be forced to come to terms with her loss and Forge's mistakes to progress in her character development, possibly leading to her powers' restoration.
With Magneto and Gambit now dead, Storm, as an 'Omega Level Mutant,' is speculated to step up to take control and address the situation herself. This episode could mark her reclaiming her powers and assuming a leadership role in the absence of other prominent characters, as per comic book.
