MAROON, AUSTRALIA: An Australian woman got the fright of her life when she discovered a nearly two-meter-long eastern brown snake "having a snooze" lying under her bedsheets. According to snake expert Zachery Richards, the woman was simply changing her sheets when she spotted the venomous snake slithering on her bed. Richards acknowledged that it was highly unusual to see such a large and poisonous snake in a bed.

He explained to Yahoo News how it was unusual for a poisonous snake to strive to make itself comfortable in such a way in his experience. "I don't find them there everyday," he joked. "It would've come in through an open door or window". The snake specialist stated that the enormous chap would have been seeking refuge in the home since it was a hot day with temperatures soaring "in the 30s" and since it was in the tiny town of Maroon."They'll get under your fridge, they'll get into all sorts of places and the bed just looked like a good place to have a snooze," he said.

Don't try to handle things on your own

The snake's size was also noted as being "decent," and Richards asserted that it "had a fairly good life with some good feeds" behind it. Richards bagged the animal and released it "a few kilometers away" into some bushland, where it is now "away from humans and dwellings."

When it comes to potentially lethal species, he advised individuals to consult a professional rather than try to handle things on their own. "If you see one, just back away slowly, shut the door, put a towel under the door and ring a professional," he advised.

'My worst nightmare'

Zachery's Snake and Reptile Relocation Facebook page was updated with pictures of the 1.83 m brown snake, along with a warning to "check the bed carefully" before getting in. The post received a lot of attention and garnered more than 1,500 responses from frightened Australians. "I'd never be able sleep again," one person commented. "My worst nightmare," another said. Another commented, "Glad it was not in my bed I would have died of shock," while another quipped, "I would develop 'restless leg syndrome' if I were in that bed." Someone chimed in, "NO no no just Nooo OMG . I Would need to sleep in a sealed metal box if I visit Australia".
