Snake inside Sneaker! Man shocked to find poisonous reptile coiled inside his shoe
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA: Snake handlers have urged Australians not to leave their shoes lying around, rightfully so! A man received the shock of his life when he discovered one of Australia's most venomous snakes inside his shoe.
The man discovered a red-bellied black snake inside his black shoe, at his home in southwest Sydney. The man was only made aware of the reptile's presence by its recognizable red belly since it was almost completely camouflaged by its color.

'Ssssssinderella slipping on a new shoe'
The snake could be securely removed from the man's home thanks to handlers from Reptile Removal Sydney. After that, they uploaded images of the snake concealed inside the shoe to their Facebook page. "It's not Cinderella it's ssssssinderella slipping on a new shoe and it looks like it's a snug fit! Always good to keep your shoes stored on a rack, off the ground, to reduce the risk of this happening again," they wrote alongside the picture.
Social media responded in horror to the find, with one person writing, "Yeh nooo, that shoe would have landed in the paddock," while another said, "I’d stop leaving your shoes out the front." "SHUT THE DOOR, and throw away ya shoes," said a third, while a fourth chimed in with, "Yikes that’s scary."
Red-bellied black snakes are very common in Australia
Throughout Australia's east coast, red-bellied black snakes are a familiar sight, and the staff at Reptile Removal Sydney has highlighted a few of the peculiar hiding places they've been asked to remove snakes from this month. One was discovered earlier this month in Cronulla behind a refrigerator, and the other was discovered in Camden the same day trapped under a downpipe. The handlers from Reptile Relocation Sydney removed eight snakes from a single location near Minto throughout the month of January, as per 7News.
According to the Australian Museum, red-bellied snakes are less active during summer, although they still roam around and enjoy the sun. The species is most active in the spring, when it is breeding season, with males more frequently seen out looking for a mate. "For its size, the red-bellied black snake is probably the least dangerous elapid snake in Australia. Despite the number of bites received every year, very few human deaths have resulted," according to the Australian Museum. It said that because of their smaller size, pets and children face a significantly higher chance of danger.
