Keeley Hawes shares excitement over 'The Assassin' future after Prime Video's big decision: 'I can't...'
Brace yourself to get immersed in the high-octane world of action and intrigue, as 'The Assassin' has officially been greenlit for Season 2 by Prime Video. Created by Harry Williams and Jack Williams, Season 1 wrapped up with a major revelation as Edward Green (Freddie Highmore) finally uncovers the truth about his parents. The Season 1 finale sees Edward sailing under a Greek flag with Kayla Cross (Shalom Brune-Franklin). Soon, Julie Green (Keeley Hawes) unexpectedly joins them to meet Edward's biological surrogate mother, setting the stage for a high-stakes Season 2.
As per reports, the production for 'The Assassin' Season 2 is set to begin later this year. Hawes will return as Julie, the former assassin whose peaceful life was upended by her son, Edward's search for the truth. Highmore is also back as Edward, alongside Brune-Franklin reprising her role as Kayla, his sharp and determined fiancée. Devon Terrell is also set to return as Ezra Cross, Kayla's unpredictable brother, as per Deadline.
Reportedly, the story for 'The Assassin' Season 2 is expected to jump forward after a disastrous trip to Northern Europe that fractures Edward and Julie's relationship, sending them down separate paths. Julie returns to her life as an assassin while Edward's honeymoon with Kayla spirals. Their individual struggles ultimately force them back together, as they must reconcile their fractured relationship to take on the powerful, dangerous Spanish criminal underworld. Season 2 promises thrilling drama as Edward and Julie are pushed to test their skills while rebuilding trust and partnership under extreme pressure.
Talking about 'The Assassin' Season 2, Hawes shared her excitement, saying, "I can't wait to step back into Julie's world." She further added, "To reunite with Freddie and our extraordinary cast, and to dive deeper into Julie's life and her complicated relationship with Edward, is a privilege. There is so much more to uncover." Highmore also echoed her enthusiasm, as he shared, "What fun it'll be to get the gang back together–I can't wait to be reunited with so many of the cast and crew. Harry and Jack have cooked up another spectacular adventure, and I feel so lucky to have the brilliant Keeley as a sparring partner once again."
Notably, the first season streams on AMC+ in the US and on Crave and CTV in Canada, with NBCUniversal holding rights in Latin America. Internationally, All3Media International secured buyers including HBO Max, Mediaset, and Stan. Produced by Two Brothers Pictures with All3Media International, executive producers Daisy Mount and Alex Mercer tease that Season 2 won't be smooth sailing, as per Collider. They said, "Reuniting with Keeley, Freddie, Shalom, and Devon is a real privilege… The second season is full of twists, turns, and thrilling unpredictability—just like the characters at the center of it."
