Will ‘The Night Agent’ return for Season 4? Netflix gives fans a surprise mission to reveal show’s future
Fans of the political action thriller ‘The Night Agent’ just received some big news: the series is officially coming back for a fourth season. The announcement arrived not long after the third installment dropped on streaming, which tells you something about how much confidence there is behind the scenes. But this time around, the show is packing its bags. After filming across several locations during earlier seasons, the upcoming chapter will set up shop in Los Angeles. That’s a bit of a shift considering the show spent two seasons shooting in New York after the first run was made in Canada. At the center of everything remains Gabriel Basso, who returns as FBI agent Peter Sutherland.
The character somehow manages to stumble into one national security nightmare after another while trying to keep the country from falling apart at the seams. If you’ve watched the series, you know the basic idea. Peter works the late-night emergency phone line at the White House. And when it rings? Trouble usually follows. The show itself comes from creator and showrunner Shawn Ryan and draws inspiration from the novel written by Matthew Quirk. The story is about Peter’s mission to expose dangerous conspiracies hidden inside the upper layers of government power. And let’s be honest, the stakes tend to climb quickly. Netflix shared the renewal news in a playful way rather than just posting a press release.
A promotional clip showed tourists wandering around New York’s Times Square when suddenly a mysterious phone began ringing. Curious passersby picked it up, because who wouldn’t, and after completing a fictional “mission,” the giant digital billboards in the square flashed the announcement: “‘The Night Agent’ will return for Season 4.” Meanwhile, creator Ryan spoke about that experience while confirming the new season, mentioning that, “It’s been a wild ride filming ‘The Night Agent’ in five countries across three continents to this point and we’re so thrilled that the adventures of Peter Sutherland will continue into Season 4.” He added, “Our writers, our cast and our crew stand ready to answer the call to bring our incredible fans even more twists, turns and thrills,” as quoted by Deadline.
Behind the camera, the creative crew remains large and busy. Ryan continues as executive producer alongside Marney Hochman through MiddKid Productions. Additional producers attached to the series include Seth Gordon and Julia Gunn representing Exhibit A, as well as James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, Paul Neinstein, and Nicole Tossou working through Project X. Other producers involved include David Beaubaire with Sunset Lane Media and contributors such as Munis Rashid, Paul Bernard, Guy Ferland, and Seth Fisher. The series itself is produced by Sony Pictures Television. In other words, it takes a lot of people to keep one fictional phone line ringing.
