Will Smith admits to extramarital relationships, says Jada was not 'the only one'
Will Smith recently spoke about his marriage with Jada Pinkett Smith in a candid converstaion after discussions around the latter having a romantic “entanglement” with another man. Back in July 2020, the couple publicly spoke about Jada’s extramarital affair with singer August Alsina on Jada’s 'Red Table Talk' show. Now, Will Smith has revealed that Jada was not the only one with a relationship outside their marriage.
Speaking to GQ, Smith said, "Jada never believed in conventional marriage.… Jada had family members that had an unconventional relationship. So she grew up in a way that was very different than how I grew up. There were significant endless discussions about, what is relational perfection? What is the perfect way to interact as a couple? And for the large part of our relationship, monogamy was what we chose, not thinking of monogamy as the only relational perfection."

Smith revealed that Jada was not “the only one engaging in other sexual relationships” outside their marriage. “We have given each other trust and freedom, with the belief that everybody has to find their own way. And marriage for us can’t be a prison. And I don’t suggest our road for anybody. I don’t suggest this road for anybody. But the experiences that the freedoms that we’ve given one another and the unconditional support, to me, is the highest definition of love,” Smith said.
Smith revealed that he was not sure whether or not to disclose the matter about Jada's relationship with Alsina in his book but eventually decided not to as he believed that it was a story that could not be appropriately told only from his perspective. He believed that it also would not do much good when it comes to how the public would perceive it. “The public has a narrative that is impenetrable,” Smith said. “Once the public decides something, it’s difficult to impossible to dislodge the pictures and ideas and perceptions.”
Smith further explained that their discussion on the episode of 'Red Table Talk' had already been misinterpreted by the public. Since the root of the discussion was Alsina's disclosures, people assumed that Jada was the only one who had sexual relationships outside of their marriage, which was not really the case.
Jada Pinkett Smith recently celebrated her 50th birthday, she opened up about her bond with husband Will Smith. Speaking with George Clooney, a guest during an episode of ‘Red Table Talk’, Jada said, “I think that what you really have to learn is how to have a friendship. You know, ‘cause really, how do you put up with anybody? How do you put up with yourself?” Smith and Jada met when Jada auditioned for a role as Smith's character's girlfriend in ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’. The two got married in 1997.
