Chris Evans hints at Captain America's ‘brutal’ fate in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
Now that ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has debuted in theatres, fans are already looking forward to the next MCU release. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is scheduled to release later this year on December 18, and with several months to go before its premiere, fans have turned into detectives. They are keeping a close eye out for any updates, even the tiniest ones. Recently, Chris Evans himself provided a little yet interesting breadcrumb about his storyline. The actor was part of a recent Q&A at Fan Expo Boston, where he revealed what fans can expect from his character, Steve Rogers, aka Captain America. As quoted by The Hollywood Reporter, he said, “The Russos love beating up Steve Rogers,” referring to Anthony and Joe Russo, who are the directors of ‘Doomsday’.
Evans added, “Their favorite thing to do is to just beat the c**p out of him. To them, that’s what makes a hero, and that’s someone who gets punched so many times but still gets up. So they keep finding new ways to kick his b**t. And this one was brutal.” So, fans should likely prepare themselves to see their favorite Captain take a beating. Meanwhile, apart from Evans, ‘Doomsday’ will also have other familiar faces returning to the MCU, including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Wyatt Russell, Channing Tatum, Simu Liu, Ian McKellen, Tom Hiddleston, James Marsden, and Patrick Stewart, among others. But most fans are discussing Robert Downey Jr., as he is confirmed to be the main bad guy, Doctor Doom.
The Russo brothers spoke to PEOPLE about him during Comic-Con 2026, explaining why Downey Jr. was the perfect choice for the supervillain role. “That was something that Robert surprised us with one day,” Anthony shared. “You know, we were talking about all the details of the character — the voice, of course, is a key part of it, especially in the mask.” He continued, “So one day I think it was in the trailer, we were just sort of talking about some ideas and he broke out into the voice. And we knew at that moment, that was it.” According to Marvel, the official logline for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ reads, “‘Avengers: Doomsday’ follows beloved heroes from three distinct universes as they’re set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered.”
