MCU might have found its next Wolverine and fans think he’s ‘perfect’

Matt Wood has become a fan favorite for Wolverine, but Marvel has yet to reveal who will play the character in the upcoming 'X-Men' movie.

Matt Wood becomes a fan favorite for one major role in Marvel's upcoming X-Men projects. Wood's name keeps coming up in fan discussions about who could take over as Wolverine. Although Marvel has not confirmed who will play Logan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) new X-Men lineup, and with fans rising upvoting, they might think of casting Matt Wood for the role. MCU studio has yet to reveal when Wolverine will appear or whether the character will join the first new-gen 'X-Men' movie.

The casting talk has grown as more names come up for the upcoming 'X-Men'. Kit Connor has reportedly been cast as Cyclops, joining Sadie Sink as Jean Grey and Samara Weaving as Emma Frost. Hugh Jackman remains closely tied to the character after playing Wolverine for 25 years. He is expected to appear in 'Avengers: Secret Wars', and fans are wondering whether he could continue as an older version of Logan.

So, room for fan casting is still in the wind, and Wood is one name that keeps returning. Moreover, Wood is not yet a major Hollywood star. Knowing the MCU's reputation, this can be tricky. His best-known role so far is John Belushi in 'Saturday Night'. Fans have started pointing to his appearance as one reason he could fit the comic version of Wolverine. The comic book Logan is much shorter than Jackman's version. Wolverine stands around 5 feet 3 inches in the comics, making him a smaller, more aggressive character. 'Deadpool & Wolverine' even played with that difference. Actor Luke Bennett portrayed a shorter version of Logan, with Jackman's face placed over his body.

So, why are fans seeing Wood as a good fit? Wood stands at around 5 feet 7 inches. That still makes him five inches shorter than Jackman, and fans see that difference as a possible advantage. His age could work too. Wood is in his mid-30s, which puts him above some of the younger actors linked to the new 'X-Men' cast. Logan's long lifespan also gives Marvel plenty of room to play with his age.

The bigger question is whether Marvel would take a chance on a lesser-known actor for such a major role, which they do not generally do. All major roles in any Marvel movie were performed by well-established actors. Hugh Jackman has played Wolverine for over two decades despite being much taller than the comic version. However, appearance is not a major concern here for Matt. The aura of Jackman's Wolverine is much more challenging.

On the actor's front, Wood himself has shown his interest in the idea. He once responded to the fan casting by saying, "Marvel come on, juice me up, I'll be jacked." The comment referred to Chris Pratt's dramatic physical transformation for his Marvel role. Wood also pointed to Jackman's famous physique as proof that he would be willing to train hard for Wolverine. With Marvel still keeping its Wolverine plans under wraps, the actor's chances remain unclear. Fans may like the idea, but the studio has yet to give any indication.
