ABC pulls 'Grey's Anatomy' this week, but Season 22, Episode 11 has a return date
Fans were in for a disappointment on Thursday as ABC decided to skip airing 'Grey’s Anatomy' Season 22 Episode 11, titled '(If You Want It) Do It Yourself'. This comes after Episode 10 of the medical drama ended on a bittersweet note, raising viewers' anticipation for the next episode. ABC has not given an official reason for pulling its entire Thursday lineup, affecting shows like '9-1-1' and '9-1-1: Nashville'. The break may be due to Winter Olympics viewership or ABC strategically timing episodes around sweeps weeks.
'Grey's Anatomy' Season 22 will return on Thursday, February 26, after a month-long hiatus. While the break has frustrated fans, a newly released promo teases what's ahead, including Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) potentially entering a new relationship, Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) fighting to save a critically ill patient, and an unusually intimate medical case involving a self-inflicted vasectomy, as per ScreenRant.
Talking about the show, Season 22 has been eventful, opening with a major character death, ongoing crises at Grey Sloan, and Addison Montgomery's (Kate Walsh) return following her sabbatical after Monica Beltran's (Natalie Morales) death. Montgomery seeks Shepherd's help with patient Emma and reveals a painful personal truth, telling her, "Jake's leaving me. I don't want to talk about it. I don't want you to ask any questions about it. All I want is for Emma to get the best care possible, and that's you."
Moved but conflicted, Shepherd ultimately agrees to return, saying, "I will get my privileges reinstated." However, emotions run high in the operating room, and tensions peak when Shepherd orders Montgomery out as the patient's condition worsens, as per E! News. Later in the episode, Montgomery confides in Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.), admitting, "I'm turning everyone who once supported me into an enemy." By the end, she opens up further to Shepherd about her failing marriage, revealing, "He says when I’m home I'm barely there. He says I'm not a good partner. And he's right. I forgot an anniversary. I forgot a birthday. I am not the woman he married anymore."
Overcome with emotion, Montgomery admits, "But nothing is what it used to be. I don't even recognize science anymore," acknowledging she can't step away from her work when so many patients depend on her. Shepherd responds with clarity, telling her, "I think if he's asking you to choose, something is probably already fundamentally broken." As Montgomery faces the possible end of her marriage, Shepherd reaches a turning point and officially ends her sabbatical, telling her, "Fine. I’ll go back to work."
