WASHINGTON DC, US: John King, CNN's man at the magic wall, has reportedly been replaced by his ex-wife, Dana Bash, as the anchor of his esteemed program ‘Inside Politics’. The news network announced on Thursday, April 28, that the 59-year-old King, who also serves as CNN’s chief national correspondent, will assume a new position that will focus on voters in battleground states during the 2024 presidential race.

“This is my ‘back to the future’ dream assignment. It is my tenth presidential cycle and, given the stakes, I felt it was time to get back to my roots reporting across the country,” King said in a statement to CNN. King, who has anchored "Inside Politics" since 2014, will still have a significant role in CNN's election and special programming. The news network’s announcement also stated that Bash will continue serving as co-anchor alongside Jake Tapper on CNN’s “State of the Union,” which airs on Sunday mornings.

'John built an extraordinary show'

Bash, who has spent her 30-year career at CNN as a producer, correspondent, and anchor, claimed that she is "thrilled" to take over as "Inside Politics" host. “After nearly 30 years at CNN covering campaigns, Capitol Hill, and the White House, I am excited to helm a program devoted to the politics that impact Americans’ lives,” Bash said. “John built an extraordinary show that has attracted a loyal audience of political junkies, and I am looking forward to leading its next chapter.” The handoff of "Inside Politics" is the latest change to the CNN line-up under Chris Licht, who took over as the network’s chief executive last year, as per Yahoo News.

Why did John King and Dana Bash divorce?

King and Bash, who got married in 2008, decided to get divorced in 2012, just months after they welcomed their only son, Jonah Frank. At that time, a source close to the former couple revealed they had been living in separate homes over the past couple of months, according to Hollywood Reporter. There were no indications as to what caused the divorce, but their friend revealed that the process has been 'very difficult' and 'one that neither party wanted'.

It was also revealed that the couple will "continue to co-parent their young son and to work together with the utmost professionalism." The couple had both been married before they made their relationship public in 2007. Bash had been married to Jeremy Bash, the Chief of Staff to Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, while King has a son and a daughter - both teenagers - from his first marriage.
