Why did Dongkiz change to DKZ?
Dongkiz has announced a series of changes that will be seen with the boy group’s April comeback. First off, the boy group DONGKIZ will be reintroduced to the fans under their new official team name DKZ starting from their April 2022 comeback. With members Wondae and Munik on a hiatus after suffering from injuries, the duo will not be able to participate in the group's upcoming comeback. the group would make a comeback in April without the duo.
Since after this arrangement, Dongkiz would only have three members, the label also announced that they would go ahead and promote as DKZ, which could be called a unit/team name rather than a group name. The group stated that DONGKIZ and DKZ are not different groups, but instead, the two names should be associated with one boy group that connects the memories of the past, the present, and the future.
Member Wondae’s exit and Munik’s hiatus
DKZ’s label also took the time to finally discuss the future of the group in terms of its lineup. It was first reported that after a long and in-depth discussion with Dongkiz members, Wondae, his medical consultants as well as the label, they have all arrived at the decision that Wondae will take an exit from the group Dongkiz. This is after it was stated that his injury was too severe and would require constant rehabilitation in the future causing a hindrance to the group activities in the long run.
After Wondae’s exit was confirmed, the label also addressed the issue with Munik’s injury and it was stated that Munik will still be on a hiatus during the boy group’s April comeback before he fully resumes his activities in order to completely recover and focus on his health in the meantime. This is after medical authorities had revealed that Munik had not completely recovered yet which led the label to keep him on a hiatus for DKZ’s April 2022 comeback.
DKZ to add three new members
Following Wondae’s fateful exit from the group and Munik’s extended hiatus from DKZ’s upcoming album, it was announced that members Kyoungyoon, Jaechan, and Jonghyeong would be joined by three new members that will help boost the morale and confidence of the boy group who are set to promote as six members for the upcoming comeback from April of 2022.
