LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘The View’ tends to pick up the most popular and controversial topics to discuss in their segments, and at this point, they are probably already used to the backlash that they receive. Most recently, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had taken over the news outlets with their catastrophic car chase with the paparazzi, and of course, ‘The View’ co-hosts had to weigh in.

Fans aren’t too pleased with how this topic was handled, especially by Whoopi Goldberg, who is often the easiest target on social media. The lack of empathy by Whoopi and other co-hosts was visible to the fans, and anyone who is obsessed with Harry and Meghan, might not have been too thrilled by this segment. Fans didn’t hold back as they took to Twitter to call out Whoopi and other co-hosts.

‘So wacky stuff went on last night’

The segment regarding this car chase is started off by Whoopi herself who says, “So wacky stuff went on last night, apparently Tuesday night, in Manhattan where Prince Harry and Meghan were followed by paparazzi.” When it comes to Whoopi, it’s less about what she says, and more about how she says that irks fans as the discussion continues, “I think people in New York would know if it’s possible to have car chases.” She added, “The paparazzi are always going to go for celebrities, they just are, because it makes a little dough for them, so it is their right. They were as aggressive as they would be with Taylor [Swift], but for their people, I want to recommend that when you come here, know exactly what your route is going to be. You must know your route and the fastest way to get there.” This statement, followed by a seven-minute discussion between the co-hosts, Sunny Hostin, Joy Behar, and Alyssa Farah Griffin weighing in, struck a nerve with some fans, and they did not hold back.

‘#whoopigoldberg is wrong’

As fans took to Twitter, they couldn’t help but point out Whoopi’s missteps, which were highlighted the most among other co-hosts. One can blame it on her popularity or previous blunders, it really is all about perspective. One fan of ‘The View’ wrote, “#whoopigoldberg is wrong, she dismissed out right the experience of Prince Harry, with his passengers his wife and mother in law, as he’s expressed “fear” of happening to him, his family what happened to his mother. #theview” Another viewer also directly addressed Whoopi as they wrote, “#whoopi doing her possible best to defend a white supremacist monarchy when they throw their own white Prince to the wolves. It’s really sad to witness her become void of reasoning when it comes to the couple vs the monarchy. 🤦🏻‍♀️ #TheView Shame on you for dehumanizing this couple.”

Apart from not being thrilled with Whoopi, the entire panel came under scrutiny for how they reported this incident, as one viewer tweeted, “Perhaps if you are going to report on something you should know the basic facts. The paparazzi that we're chasing them were British you failed to mention that and they are 10 times more aggressive than Paparazzi in New York.” And another viewer added to the conversation by saying, “Disappointed @TheView total lack of empathy for the terrible ordeal #PrinceHarryandMeghan experienced in #NewYork Such quibbling over semantics may seem dismissive and insensitive. This incident is eerily similar to what led to the tragic death of #PrincessDiana.” Another viewer expressed their thoughts about wanting ‘The View’ to shut down altogether as they tweeted, “The dehumanization by these women on the panel is sickening. You women always want to twist things done to the couple or their experiences to fit a negative narrative. Can’t wait to see this platform shut down. Sick sick sick.” And of course, a little humor was found amidst these tweets as one viewer wrote, “Time to add these women to South Park.”
