NEW PORT RICHEY, FLORIDA: On Friday, November 25, 'Fame' and 'Flashdance' singer Irene Cara died at the age of 63. Her publicist Judith A Moose revealed the sad news on Twitter. She wrote, "It is with profound sadness that on behalf of her family I announce the passing of Irene Cara. I can’t believe I’ve had to write this, let alone release the news. Please share your thoughts and memories of Irene. I’ll be reading each and every one of them and know she’ll be smiling from Heaven. She adored her fans."
Cara, a singer and actress, was born on March 18, 1959. In the 1970s, she made her first appearances on television and the stage, including ones on PBS and Johnny Carson's 'The Tonight Show'. In 1984, Cara won an Academy Award for Best Original Song and a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for singing and co-writing the song 'Flashdance... What a Feeling' from the film 'Flashdance'. Cara is well-known for singing the title song of the 1980 film 'Fame', in addition to playing Coco Hernandez in the movie.

Cara was previously married to Conrad E Palmisano. On April 13, 1986, Cara wed and announced Palmisano to be her spouse. The couple’s first meet was in 1984 on the set of 'A Certain Fury' where her now ex-husband Palmisano was the stunt coordinator. In the 1987 film 'Busted Up', he co-starred with his wife. The marriage did not result in any children, and the pair later divorced in 1991. Following their divorce, her ex-husband reportedly became the president of the Stuntmen's Association and was a movie director and Cara reportedly didn't date anyone after their separation.
