Who is Mia Threapleton?
Mia Threapleton is the daughter of Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet and her former British filmmaker husband, JimThreapleton. She was born in 2000. Her parents split up when she was just one year old.
The 20-year-old star decided to follow in her mother's footsteps and become an actress after she was done with her school. In an interview with The Variety, the young Hollywood star shared her passion for acting. She said, "I had just finished school, was free of exam hell, and felt excited, nervous and ready to start auditioning for things, and hoping that the opportunities to audition would come my way," she told the publication. "I just hoped I would get the chance to do what I had wanted to do for so long!"
Mia didn't have to wait for too long, as she received her first acting job for a 2020 film called 'Shadows'. She was instantly smitten by the script and couldn't put it down. She said, "The first film I'd received an audition for and the first script I had ever been given to read." "I couldn't believe my luck. I read it and didn't put it down, which is admitting a lot because I'm dyslexic and that means I have to read slowly and steadily to be able to absorb things fully sometimes," she added.
Unlike most star kids Mia didn't get to visit her parents' set while they were working, especially her mother's. She described the occasional opportunity to visit her mother while she was filming as a 'special treat'. "It's a very different experience when it is happening to you, and not just something I was getting to observe from time to time. I really understand why my mum has always impressed on us how hard the work is. She is right! And I loved every second of it," the 20-year-old explained.
How does Kate Winslet feel about Mia Threapleton's acting career?
It is safe to say that Kate is one proud mother. The 'Titanic' actress couldn't stop gushing about her oldest child's accomplishments during a recent interview with British presenter Lorraine Kelly. Kate explained how Mia managed to stay 'under the radar' and earned her first acting job all by herself without any help from anybody. "Mia's 20 and acting," exclaimed the actress. She also revealed that her daughter was currently filming in the Czech Republic for a television series. "She's away just now in the Czech Republic about to start work on a TV series over there."
Kate also shared that she always had a gut feeling that her daughter might take up an acting career. Her motherly intuition turned out to be right. "That's been a wonderful thing... I think I knew [sic] was coming, I always suspected. And then a few years ago she turned around and said, 'I think I would like to give it a go," Kate said of her daughter's acting aspirations.
The 'Mare of Easttown' actress also pointed out how her daughter's different last name helped her earn her acting role by herself. "What's been really great for her is that she has a different surname, so that initial job out of the gate, she slipped right under the radar and the people who cast her had absolutely no idea she was my daughter," the 45-year-old actress shared. "And, of course, that was my biggest fear." But Kate couldn't be prouder as she felt that it was "most important for her self-esteem" to secure a job without relying on her mother's name and connections.
