Val Kilmer, now 62, famously played Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky alongside Tom Cruise's Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell in the iconic 1986 film 'Top Gun'. A sequel to the classic, titled 'Top Gun: Maverick,' debuts in cinemas on May 27, with Kilmer reprising his renowned role. The film was a great moment for his family, Kilmer's daughter has revealed.

Mercedes Kilmer disclosed in an interview with Page Six that she got to see her father film his part in filmmaker Joseph Kosinski's new film. Mercedes, 30, recalls, “I was on set, I saw it live and it was extraordinary. It means a lot to my dad, as he’s very proud of that film. This is what he loves to do.” “It was trippy, and very special, for my dad to be on set with all of his friends who made this movie when they were my age,” she added.

What happened to Val Kilmer? 'Top Gun' star is battling serious health issues

Who is Mercedes Kilmer?

Mercedes Kilmer was born in New Mexico on October 29, 1991. She graduated from a Los Angeles private high school and decided to pursue a career in Hollywood when she grew older. In 2013, the young actress made her professional acting debut in the short film, ‘Pool Party.' Mercedes has been in a number of short films including 'Paydirt,’ in which she appeared with her father. In addition to performing, Mercedes was apparently the lead vocalist of a blues band that performed across Los Angeles.

Last year, Mercedes discussed her father, who has lost much of his ability to speak as a result of radiation and chemotherapy treatment for throat cancer. Val, who is now cancer-free, ‘never really wanted to look back anyway,’ she remarked at the time. Mercedes revealed in an interview with People that her father's health issues have brought them closer adding, “We all spend so much time together. Even just getting to meet all my dad’s friends from before I was born — there are so many beautiful things that happen when you need help from people.”

Meanwhile, Mercedes recently attended the Cannes premiere of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ with her brother Jack Kilmer in their dad’s place. Earlier, according to Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced both films, Cruise was keen about Kilmer participating in the sequel. According to Bruckheimer, “[Tom] said, ‘I’m not making this movie without Val. When we filmed it, it was a very emotional day, having Val there and seeing him work with Tom after 35 years.”
