'I'm the one that got away': Model claims Leonardo DiCaprio hit on her but she 'ghosted' him
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA: Australian influencer Steph Claire Smith has claimed that Leonardo DiCaprio asked her out years ago but she turned him down. The model shared about the incident on her podcast 'KICPOD', alongside co-host Laura Henshaw. She was reportedly approached in Los Angeles when she was only 19.
Explaining more about her and ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ star’s interaction, Smith told on the podcast as per the Daily Mail, “I was dancing on my own for most of the night, and I noticed someone looking at me and I realized this guy is wearing one of those hats, like those English hats and I was like, he kinda looks like Leonardo DiCaprio.”

‘He did the whole French double kiss on the cheek’
The 29-year-old continued, “Then my friend came over and was like, ‘Steph, apparently Leonardo DiCaprio is here’ and I was like ‘WOW it is him!’” Smith then said that she entered another club, where DiCaprio was also present. Eventually, the 48-year-old star’s assistant came to Smith.
She noted, “This person that was with him weaved themselves through the crowd and was like, ‘Do you want to meet Leo?’ Abso-f***ing-lutely I do! So we went over, he did the whole French double kiss on the cheek... and then he was like, ‘Can I grab your number, I would love to take you out for dinner to some of the nicest restaurants around here.’”
‘I don't know what to say’
Smith disclosed, “He then messaged us and said, ‘This is Leo, this is the number you can contact me on.’” But the entrepreneur stated that she “never replied” to him as she was dating her now-husband Josh Miller at the time. The podcast show's producer Mandy then quickly asked, “I'm sorry can we just drill down on the fact that you left Leonardo DiCaprio on read?”
“'I'm the one that got away, I don't know what to say,” Smith quipped and co-host Henshaw added, “You ghosted Leonardo DiCaprio.”
‘Friends are blaming Gigi’
This comes as reports have claimed that the ‘Titanic’ star has again gotten together with Gigi Hadid after an alleged brief romance last year. But DiCaprio’s friends are reportedly not happy with the new development since the actor was “way less available for poker nights and hangouts — and friends are blaming Gigi”.
A source said, “Gigi and Leo are both night owls. They hang out for dinner and chill together in hotel rooms or private residences — often for days at a time,” as they went on to add, “Leo's normally arranging the summer cruises by now, with him and the guys and a few bikini-clad ladies. But he's let that slip, too, and is talking about some solo vacation time with just himself and Gigi.”
Earlier, another source had added, “She [Hadid] wants substance. And while everyone hopes Leo will eventually settle down, no one knows if this will go the distance.” Before DiCaprio, Hadid was with Zayn Malik and the two welcomed their daughter Khai in September 2020.
