CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Jerry Springer, 79, the controversial TV talk show host and media personality for 'Jerry Springer Show' has died, the family spokesperson said in a statement. He had been diagnosed with cancer earlier, however, it is yet to be known if he died due to any complications.
The tabloid TV show which ran for 27 years aired 4,000 episodes. The family of the politician-turned-TV personality said that Springer died peacefully at his home in Chicago.

Who is Micki Velton?
Despite his fame after serving as Cincinnati Mayor for a single term, the show brought controversies for the raucous it made with its fighting guests and iconic audiences who would shout 'Jerry' 'Jerry' 'Jerry'. Springer was only married once during his life with media personality Micki Velton with whom Springer shared a daughter. Although Springer got involved in the sex scandal, the relationship survived breaking up 21 years later.
The pair first met on a blind date in 1969 as per the Sun. After three years, in 1973 when Springer was carrying his political duties as a Chinchinati Council the pair tied the knot. At the time Micki was busy working for Proctor and Gamble. The pair welcomed a daughter Katie Springer into the world after a few years in 1976 as per CelebSuburb.
Was Jerry's TV career success the reason that doomed his marriage?
In 1994 after more than 21 years of being together, Velton and Springer's marriage got sour and they decided to divorce although no reasons have been shared as to why they really divorced. Katie was born deaf and blind and without a nasal passage but is now living a normal life and is already married to her husband Adam Yenkin in 2006 and is a mother to a son. The 47-year-old, who helps children with impairments as a teacher in Chicago, it is said.
Not much is known about Jerry's ex-wife as she has mostly kept her life private and also Jerry, who maintained his silence for three decades. However, it is thought that as Jerry's television carried began to take off cracks in the relationship appeared as his name was becoming synonymous with studio brawls and outrageous “too hot for TV” behavior, as per the Slate.

Jene Galvin, the family spokesperson told in a statement, “Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried whether that was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word." He added, “He’s irreplaceable and his loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intellect, heart and humor will live on.
