Jamie Reed says she initially thought she was 'saving' trans teenagers but what is happening amounts to 'permanent harm' to young, vulnerable children

WASHINGTON, MISSOURI: A St Louis transgender clinic whistleblower has made shocking claims about the harmful side effects of drugs being given to teenagers. Jamie Reed alleges that the drugs "deform" genitalia and cause bleeding. After spending four years working at a transgender clinic for children and teens, Reed reveals that teenagers are prescribed harmful drugs they have no understanding of, after being coerced into transitioning because it's deemed trendy.

Reed perceived a 'lack of formal protocol' at the center and said that doctors ignored the fact that young girls lied about having other illnesses and prescribed them hormones. She reveals that in order for a young girl to start transitioning to male, all she needed to do was see a clinic-recommended therapist once or twice and obtain a letter of support for their decision. Reed further revealed that the therapist was often given a template for the letter written by the clinic.

Who is Jamie Reed?

Jamie Reed is a queer woman who has worked at the Washington University Transgender Center at St Louis Children's Hospital in Missouri for four years and was responsible for patient intake between 2018 and November 2022. In an article for The Free Press today, Reed says she took the job with the intention of 'saving' trans kids, but that she believes what is happening amounts to 'permanent harm' to young, vulnerable children. After four years, she says she became convinced the clinics were harming kids and families, whose understanding of the realities of the medical side-effects involved was scarily poor.

Reed transferred from the transgender center to a different department in November 2022. She says the doctors at the hospital treat the issue of transitioning among teens as an "experiment."

She also claims that doctors in the clinic acted as though they were more entitled to make decisions than parents, and only one parent's consent was required in cases involving minors.

In order to prove her point, Reed cited many examples. She talked about how a 17-year-old girl's birth canal was allegedly being "ripped open" when she had sex while taking testosterone to transition to male, unaware that the drug would cause her to bleed extensively through her clothes if she had intercourse. And in other scenarios, teenage girls were terrified when their clitorises turned into micro-penises after taking the alleged drugs. She further claimed that some psychiatrically disturbed children from juvenile detention centers were also presented because they had at some point expressed an interest in changing gender. 

'This is hardly the only issue'

Such an in-depth expose by Reed has shocked the internet, many people are commending Reed's courage in speaking out the truth. A user tweeted, "This is hardly the only issue about which people are afraid to speak. We rarely see this kind of courage. I hope Jamie Reed's example will lead more people to speak out even when it is risky. And if someone is attacked for saying true things, there's always @TheFIREorg." Another also tweeted, "Wow. Thank you Jamie Reed. She has confirmed everything we’ve been saying. She also talks about how doctors turned a blind eye to detransitioners." "It’s about damn time for this article. If you read + share one article related to the gender crisis today, let it be this. We need more people like Jamie Reed to listen to their conscience, admit they’ve participated in harm, & sound the alarms," while another added. 

But not all are happy with Reed's action, some claim that it might be wrong and misleading. A user wrote, "Shame on this "whistleblower" from the Wash U gender clinic, Jamie Reed. This will cause tremendous harm for all trans youth & their families in STL. Someone in the GOP paid this woman off to do this-I bet my bottom dollar. #washu #protectransyouth". Another tweeted, "Well, Jamie Reed is just “spouting off” And the few examples she gave are not “appalling” at all."
