Who is Dr Shayne Taylor? Vanderbilt halts trans surgeries for minors after doc's money-spinner boast
NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE: Vanderbilt University Medical Center froze all gender affirmation surgeries after an LGBTQ+ specialist at the hospital was seen in a 2018 video saying that these surgeries were a "huge money maker". Conservative activist Matt Walsh released a 2018 video that shows Dr Shayne Taylor calling the transgender surgeries as easy money simply because of the "follow-ups." Following this, Vanderbilt University suspended all of its gender-altering surgeries.
Matt Walsh and his team had been investigating the transgender clinic at Vanderbilt, Nashville, according to his now-viral tweet. Walsh tweeted, "BREAKING: My team and I have been investigating the transgender clinic at Vanderbilt here in Nashville. Vanderbilt drugs, chemically castrates, and performs double mastectomies on minors. But it gets worse. Here is what we found. Let's start at the beginning." In the video shared by Walsh, Dr Taylor can be heard saying, "Some of our VUMC financial folks in October of 2016 put down some costs of how much money we think each patient would bring in. And this is only including top surgery, this isn't including any bottom surgery, and it's a lot of money." Walsh continued to accuse VUMC of several things. In a different tweet, he shared more of his findings, "So, let’s review. Vanderbilt got into the gender transition game admittedly in large part because it is very financially profitable. They then threatened any staff members who objected, and enlisted a gang of trans activists to act as surveillance in order to force compliance."

Who is Dr Shayne Taylor?
Dr Shayne Taylor is a physician at the VUMC Clinic for Transgender Health. Originally from Tucson, Arizona, she completed her undergraduate studies at Emory University in Atlanta in the areas of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and Biology. she received her MD degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia in 2014 and became a resident at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 2018.
Dr Taylor is currently an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics in the division of General Internal Medicine and Public Health at VUMC. Her areas of expertise include Adolescent and Young Adult Health, Contraception, General Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, and Pediatric General Pediatrics, as per Vanderbilt Health.
Fox News reported that VUMC has suspended their gender affirmation surgeries on underage patients pending a review of their processes. In a statement made to the Tennessee lawmakers, they explained that they have halted the procedures due to new recommendations from the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH).
The statement read, "On September 6, 2022, WPATH [World Professional Association for Transgender Health] published a new version of its recommendations to health care professionals for treatment of transgender persons, known as SOC-8,' the hospital wrote in a statement to lawmakers. In light of these new recommendations, and as part of completing our internal clinical review of SOC-8 guidance in patients under 18, we will be seeking advice from local and national clinical experts. We are pausing gender affirmation surgeries on patients under age 18 while we complete this review, which may take several months."
Vanderbilt University also distanced itself from VUMC, saying that the hospital is an independent identity and the school could neither do anything about it nor comment on it. A spokesperson for the institute said, "Vanderbilt University Medical Center is a fully independent nonprofit and has been a separate legal entity from Vanderbilt University since 2016. As such, Vanderbilt University has no role in medical decisions and patient care," as per DailyMail.
This new finding by Walsh comes after the New York Post shared that the number of minors experiencing gender dysphoria has exploded in recent years. Between 2009 and 2019, children being referred for transitioning treatment in the United Kingdom increased by 1,000% among biological males and 4,400% among biological females.
