WASHINGTON, DC: Democrat Rep Angie Craig, was assaulted in the elevator of her apartment building in Washington, DC, on Thursday around 7:15 am. She defended herself by throwing hot coffee on the attacker's face, according to a police report, and called 911 when the assailant fled. The 50-year-old Congresswoman apparently saw the suspect in the lobby of her building in the Mount Vernon Triangle area of the city, acting erratically, as if on drugs, according to police reports. Luckily, she did not suffer severe physical injuries.
Her chief of staff, Nick Coe, said that "There is no evidence that the incident was politically motivated", and further added that "Rep. Craig is grateful to the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department for their quick response and asks for privacy at this time."According to police reports, the attacker entered the same elevator as the Democrat from Minnesota and began to randomly do push-ups. Then, with a closed fist, he punched her on the chin area of her face and later grabbed her neck. Craig defended herself by throwing coffee at him. The attacker fled before police officers arrived on the scene.
