Who is Dominique Samuels? Broadcaster slammed for calling Sam Smith 'grotesque'
LONDON, ENGLAND: Broadcaster Dominique Samuels has been receiving brutal backlash after she called Sam Smith 'grotesque' for their appearance in the controversial music video for their new track 'I’m Not Here to Make Friends.' The British singer-songwriter, who came out as non-binary in 2019 and uses gender-neutral pronouns, released the track on Saturday, January 28 as part of their fourth album, ‘Gloria’.
Reflecting on the music video, the political commentator, 23, took to her Twitter handle to share a post in which she called out the ‘Unholy’ singer while taking a dig at the Hollywood industry. “Sam Smith is a perfect example of what degenerate Hollywood culture does to people. It makes celebrities vulgar, hyper-sexualized, and obsessed with wearing their sexuality like a costume and shoving it in everyone’s face. And to make matters worse, kids look up to this man!” she wrote on Sunday, January 29.

In a follow-up post, Samuels, who has appeared on BBC, ITV, Channel 4, and Sky News, claimed that she loved listening to Smith but now "he" has cheapened his talent. “Can I just say I used to love Sam Smith when he made actual music? Since then, he’s become frankly grotesque, cheapened his talent, and turned into a complete joke. Why isn’t somebody close to him telling him he looks terrible?” she added. “I think the same of Madonna, by the way. She’s become utterly grotesque and actually quite sinister. I’m not saying this because Sam Smith is ‘nonbinary’."

Samuels’ post soon garnered immense social media attention, with one user saying, “Literally, who are you to comment on what he looks like? None of us are better than others. Be kind ...” “Sam smith had a number one for ten weeks last year, I am pretty sure Sam smith won’t give a flying turd what you think,” wrote another while a third said, “The fact you used to love him before he came out as queer and changed his pronouns is telling on yourself a lot more than you realize. He's doing what he wants to do and it's none of your business.” Another user chimed in, “They’re living their best life and if this was a straight woman you wouldn’t have batted an eyelid.”
