'Difference between w****r and legend': Trolls slam Sam Smith for 'meltdown', compare him to WW2 hero Tom Moore
Singer Sam Smith recently took to Instagram to post a picture of them struggling with the lockdown and while some fans were supportive, others were cruel to the singer in their comments. Smith's loyal fans stood behind the singer as they defended the singer from the trolls of social media.
"Hey how about we don’t shit on #SamSmith for struggling with mental health during a lockdown or y’all are gonna have blood on your hands AGAIN Smh do people ever learn," tweeted a supportive fan.
The picture posted by the singer has been the toast of social media mockery and their fans are now joining forces asking people to be kind instead of being attackers. The courageous post by the singer, showed them sitting down on the floor in what looked like PJs seemingly sobbing. "You know me, I’m always sharing all of my feelings all the time and trying to be as human as possible but sometimes maybe people can read it wrongly but that wasn’t really meaning it in a malicious or nasty way, I was just trying to be myself," the singer revealed about their post.
The trolls took it a step further when they compared the singer and Army veteran Tom Moore for their contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Moore, a 99-year-old former soldier raised over $175K (£14m) for the NHS by doing laps while Smith contributed by being open, courageous and encouraging kindness - some people were not impressed.
"Oh poor me, I'm not on the TV, nobody is paying me attention. I'm so... bored with my millions. #SamSmith VS Captain Tom Moore, war veteran, who at almost 100 has raised over £13 million for the #NHS Mr Moore deserves to be Knighted. #Covid_19 #StayHomeSavesLives," tweeted a user mocking the singer.
Another rude tweet with a collage of the singer and the veteran read, "If anyone ever wondered what the difference was between a wanker and a legend here you go. #SamSmith #CaptainTomMoore,"
Fans supporting the singer called out the downright drudgery tweeting, "The veteran raising £££ for the NHS is amazing & rightly being applauded. Using his [their] achievement to troll Sam Smith & mock their suffering is disgraceful. Rich, successful ppl experience the whole spectrum of MH issues too … Remember #bekind?" while another added, "these Capt. Tom and Sam Smith comparisons are f***ing ridiculous and you should all be ashamed of yourselves. The guy is struggling and you act like a bunch of morons #SamSmith."
While it may seem that speaking out and being courageous about your true feelings while a celebrity results in quick mockery, some fans have shown their humanity by supporting the singer. The picture that started this nonsense of an argument, is currently not present on Smith's Instagram account.
"A lot of cruelty is being directed to Sam Smith, I'm not a fan of his [their] music and don't admire him [them], but my assessment of the much-criticized video is he may be having serious mental health problems & ppl should be kinder because they may end up having blood on their hands #SamSmith," tweeted another supporter.
