AUSTIN, TEXAS: Texas Longhorns basketball coach Chris Beard, 49, was suspended without pay after being arrested on Monday, December 12, for allegedly "strangling a family member." Beard was arrested on Monday at 4.18 am on a third-degree charge of "assault of a family/household member, impede breath circulation or strangulation." 

According to Fox News, the official statement says, "The University takes matters of interpersonal violence involving members of its community seriously. Given the information available, The University has suspended Chris Beard from his position as head coach of Men’s Basketball and will withhold his pay until further notice." However, he was released from Travis County Jail after paying a $10,000 bond at 2.44 pm. 

Beard was arrested on domestic assault charges. Investigative reporter for Austin Statesman and KVUE, Tony Plohetski initially broke the news. Tony wrote from his official Twitter handle on Monday, December 12, “University of Texas head men's basketball coach Chris Beard was arrested and charged with assault on a family member early Monday, Austin police confirm.”

According to the Travis County Sheriff's Office detention records, Beard was arrested around 4.18 am on Monday, December 12. The 49-year-old Beard is facing a third-degree felony charge of "assault on a family/household member," according to the records. Meanwhile, information about who this family member and victim of the assault is, is still unavailable.

New details have emerged about the shocking violence of basketball coach Chris Beard, who was arrested Monday morning, December 12, and charged with domestic violence. The unidentified woman who accused Beard said, "He choked me, bit me, bruises all over my leg, throwing me around and going nuts. I just did not feel safe."

In the affidavit she gave to the police, she said that the choking or strangulation lasted for five seconds and interfered with her breathing. She described it by saying, "I could not breathe," adding that Chris had an arm around her neck. According to the affidavit, the woman stated she was Chris' fiancée and they had been in a relationship for six years. And further, she said they had an argument in which she broke his glasses before he "just snapped on me and became super violent"

She is also reportedly the owner of a luxury jewelry store named Space, which has a shop outlet in Texas. Leslie also has an estimated net worth of $5 million. After some time of dating, Chris and Leslie were married in Montgomery County, Texas, on August 31, 1996. The pair had three daughters, Avery, Ella, and Margo. 

Chris and Leslie got divorced recently and went their separate ways while their children, under joint custody, mostly live with their mother. Meanwhile, in 2019, Chris officially declared that Randi Trew was his new girlfriend. Trew is a former Texas Tech volleyball player and the head coach at Frenship High School. Beard noted to NBC Sports, “My girlfriend now is a high school volleyball coach, and I tell her that her season is just the same as mine. It’s all relative. When she has a big game it’s just like if we’re paying Texas or Baylor. When you’re a competitor and you’re in a competition, the level doesn’t matter. The moment does.”

On social media, Trew routinely shares pictures of the couple and gives Beard compliments. According to Heavy, she said of the Texas Tech coach, in an Instagram post while they were celebrating their second anniversary, that he was "everything I prayed for." Meanwhile, several social media users came out and reacted to the news as one person wrote on Twitter, "Chris beard is done. Hope he gets help and hope the victim is okay." "Incredibly disturbing news about Chris Beard’s arrest last night. Undoubtedly lots more to follow on this," another added. "Important to note: #Texas has a game against Rice today at 7pm. So the school will have to move quickly on how they want to handle this situation," yet another user remarked.
