Alex Blackburn: Sam Dyson's ex-girlfriend claims he raped her when she was pregnant
Suspended free-agent pitcher Sam Dyson's former girlfriend has sued him while accusing him of sexual battery, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Alex Blackburn also alleged that Dyson forced her to abort their child in 2019 and when she refused to do so, he threatened to tell her sick grandfather about the unborn baby out of wedlock.
Major League Baseball suspended Dyson in March for the 2021 season after Blackburn had first made the allegations against him two years ago. A probe was launched at the time and several women participated in it. Now, on Monday, December 27, speaking about the civil suit, Blackburn’s lawyer Robert Buschel said: “Mr Dyson has not accepted responsibility for his behavior, thus he has forced this matter to be tried and proven in front of a jury. We have no doubt that the findings of the jury will be identical to that of Major League Baseball and that Mr Dyson will be held to account for his violent actions against Ms. Blackburn.”

“Alexis Blackburn hopes this lawsuit will help all women who are in an abusive relationship. She hopes it provides the freedom to escape abusive relationships and calls on all professional sports’ leagues take notice and to take quantum steps to eliminate the acceptance of domestic violence and sexual violence in sports,” the attorney added.
Who is Alex Blackburn?
Blackburn was a longtime girlfriend of the 33-year-old baseball pitcher. She made news in 2019 when she shared about the domestic violence she was facing on Instagram. At the time, she did not name Dyson. But on November 26, 2019, she spoke with DailyMail.com and expressed her interest in cooperating with the league’s probe. She also said that the alleged mistreatment was “deeper than just physical abuse.”
But her recent suit delves deeper into the allegations as it claims “defendant Dyson raped, battered, and terrorized someone he claimed he loved.” It alleged that the sportsman tripped her into a bathtub in 2016, thrust her head into a wall, broke her teeth, and once injured her inner ear.
Calling him a jealous person, the lawsuit accuses Dyson of forcing Blackburn to quit her job and focus on household duties. He had also blamed the woman for having multiple sexual partners. An accusation stemming from 2017 included in the official documents states that “Dyson called plaintiff ‘N-word lover' and a ‘whore’. Dyson also referred to other players as ‘poor Mexicans,’ ‘N-words,’ and a multitude of racist names.”
The lawsuit added that when in January 2019, Blackburn told Dyson about her pregnancy, he reacted angrily. “When Dyson learned she was pregnant he spat in face and slammed her head into the wall resulting in damage to her teeth as well as her inner ear. Dyson then forced himself on her and sexually battered her. Plaintiff told him it was painful and asked him to stop multiple times. Dyson ignored her and said he was almost finished. Once he finished he stated, ‘I always wanted to have sex with a pregnant woman,’” the woman alleged.
But when Blackburn insisted on giving birth to their child, Dyson threatened to tell her ill grandfather about it, which would make him upset since she was not married. The defendant also allegedly gave $5,000 for the abortion, the lawsuit added. However, Dyson's attorney, Todd Foster, has defended him. He told DailyMail.com: “We have many differences with what is alleged in the lawsuit and the manner in which it was brought. We will address these soon with the court.”
