Why did Clark Swanson sue Tati Westbrook?
Halo Beauty co-founder Clark Swanson filed a legal complaint against Tati and her husband James Westbrook in October claiming the couple committed fraud and negligence while also breaching their fiduciary duty as the owners of the company. He alleged their wrongdoings led to the company suffering monetary damages amounting to $25,000 in documents that were submitted to the Superior Court of the State of California in Los Angeles County on October 20, 2020. Swanson alleged the duo committed to collaborations with several other brands without his knowledge.
According to Insider, the couple failed to adhere to an agreement holding that all future cosmetics, skincare, and fragrance products should be launched under Halo Beauty. Swanson offered the example of Tati's first makeup pallette called Textured Neutrals Vol.1. which was released in October 2019 in collaboration with Seed Beauty. Swanson claims that the move caused losses amounting to $16 million. Details of this lawsuit when filed were made public and Tati revealed in a new YouTube video that she will continue fighting the good fight even though it's exhausting and expensive.

Tati said Swanson was suing her for $30 million and she was "blindsided" when she was first hit with the lawsuit. The YouTuber said this was one of the reasons she had to postpone her comeback on the video-sharing platform as there was "no way I could come back online and promote halo beauty and review makeup" with what she was dealing with behind the scenes. Tati also said she was recently informed that Swanson allegedly fed information regarding her, her personal relationship with her husband James, and her family to drama channels on YouTube. Tati revealed "disparaging information" was pushed out by Swanson about the business, the finances, pipeline projects - information that should never have been leaked out under any circumstances, she said.
In the video, Tati said she was sabotaged and that she continue fighting back in this particular incident. Tati told her followers that she understands she could end up losing everything in this scenario but will find a way to rebuild if it ever came to that. Tati said litigation was expensive but that she had an awakening in the past year that material items were not important but what matters is her integrity and she will continue doing whatever it takes to clear her name.
