The new season of ABC's 'Shark Tank' is upping its game with each passing episode. The Emmy-winning show not just financially helps budding entrepreneurs but also gives them an opportunity to learn from a panel of best venture capitalists/investors in the world -- called Sharks.

The hit show has some permanent panel members like Mark Cuban, Kevin O'Leary, Lori Greiner, Robert Herjavec, Barbara Corcoran, and Daymond John. It also invites guest Sharks and Season 13 will see Nirav Tolia in the third episode. ABC tweeted recently, “Joining the tank for Season 13: @niravtolia , co-founder of Nextdoor. #SharkTank.”

Who are Nirav Tolia's parents?

Nirav has his roots connected to India. As per reports, his parents are of Indian origin. The 48-year-old über-successful entrepreneur, who co-founded Nextdoor -- a hyperlocal social networking platform for neighborhoods -- is the son of Nalin Tolia and Kamal Tolia. He was born in 1973 in Texas.

While his father Nalin is an ophthalmologist, his mother is a gynecologist. After completing school education from Odessa’s Private High School, he went to Stanford University and graduated as a physician with a major in English Literature.

Professionally, Nirav started his career as Yahoo’s employee No 84 before becoming the CEO of product marketing website Epinions. He then went on to be a part of Shopping.com -- a company generated by the merger of Epinions and Dealtime -- as its COO. But in 2008, he co-founded Nextdoor, which is currently available in 11 countries. His reported net worth is around $50 million.

Earlier, Nirav also served as Nextdoor’s CEO. But three years ago, he decided to step down and be a part of the board of directors. A July 2018 mail sent by him to the company’s staff stated: “Just over eight years ago, I was blessed to be part of a group of seven friends who conceived of the idea behind Nextdoor. We were a tight-knit, ambitious group of co-founders who believed deeply in the power of community and dedicated ourselves to helping neighbors everywhere create stronger, safer, happier places to call home.”

He added, “Yet as Nextdoor evolves, the role of the CEO needs to evolve as well. The size of our footprint is growing larger and our organization is growing more complex. The time is right to find the next CEO for Nextdoor. With our board of directors, I will be leading the search to recruit a proven operator who can take our company to the next level. We will take our time to find the right person, so this process will likely take several months. During that period, I will continue to lead as CEO. When the next CEO is selected, I will become Chair of the Board where I will continue doing whatever I can to help us succeed.”

Nirav is married to Megha Tolia, Vice President of Strategy and E-commerce at a San Francisco-based company called Method Products. Megha is reportedly an alumnus of the University of California and Harvard Business School. The pair share three kids together and one of them is named Deven Nirav Tolia.
