LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Burt Bacharach, master of pop songwriting died aged 94 on Thursday, February 9. The legend was known for making easy listening into high art and was living at his Los Angeles home and is said to have died due to natural causes. The songwriter of multiple record hits, including ‘Any Day Now,’ ‘Alfie,’ and ‘House From Tulsa’ ruled the music industry in his prime years and scored 73 Top 40 hits in the US and 52 in the UK.
Bacharach married Paula Stewart, for whom he was a piano accompanist, however, the two separated in 1958. The songwriter went on to marry three more times, after his separation from Stewart, he tied the knot with Angie Dickinson in 1965, Carole Bayer Sager in 1982, and Jane Hansen in 1993. Bacharach, deliver several hits with one of his most successful collaborators Dionne Warwick. The famous composer-singer came released ‘Walk on By,’ ‘Do You Know the Way to San Jose?, ‘Anyone Who Had a Heart,’ ‘A House is Not a Home’ (later a hit for Luther Vandross), and the latter’s very own original version of I Say a Little Prayer. Though, the relationship turned sour after Warwick sued Bacharach and won.

His second wife was Angie Dickinson, with whom he shared a daughter Nikki Bacharach, who eventually killed herself in 2007, after years of struggle with mental health at age 40. Bacharach's third wife was Carole Bayer Sager, an accomplished musical composer of the 80s. She wrote lyrics for several songs for Bacharach’s new songs, which were performed by the likes of Neil Diamond, Roberta Flack, and Christopher Cross. The legendary musician even bagged his second Oscar for best original song in 1981 because of its unique theme. Jane Hansen, Bacharach’s last wife remained with her until death and the pair shares two kids together Oliver Bacharach and Raleigh Bacharach.
Successful collaboration with lyricist Hal David
Burt Bacharach made a breakthrough after teaming up with Hal David. His work partner David was a gifted lyricist whom he first met at New York pop powerhouse the Brill Building. They went on to deliver back-to-back hits and the songs topping the charts worldwide, including ‘The Story of My Life’ by Marty Robbins (Michael Holliday in the UK hit version) and ‘Magic Moments’ by Perry Como, according to The Guardian.
