‘The White Lotus’ finally confirms Season 4 location and it’s a 19th-century French château made for scandal
HBO’s Emmy-winning satire ‘The White Lotus’ is officially packing its designer luggage for the French Riviera. Creator Mike White and the network have selected a lavish luxury property in southern France to serve as the central backdrop for Season 4, continuing the show’s tradition of pairing breathtaking vacation destinations with darkly comic social collapse. Variety report indicates that Château de La Messardière, a prestigious hilltop hotel overlooking Saint-Tropez, will function as the primary resort featured in the upcoming season. The grand estate, known for its sweeping views of the Mediterranean and its ultra-exclusive clientele, aligns perfectly with ‘The White Lotus’ formula.
The move to France was confirmed in September 2025, instantly igniting speculation among fans about where exactly the series would land. Many viewers predicted the French Riviera early on, according to ScreenRant. The theory was fueled by reports that White had been spotted scouting multiple high-end hotels in the region last summer. Among the rumored stops were legendary properties in Nice and along the Côte d’Azur, making Saint-Tropez a natural and highly anticipated choice. Château de La Messardière offers the kind of opulence the series thrives on.
Originally built in the 19th century, the estate sits above the Bay of Saint-Tropez and has become a magnet for celebrities, international jet-setters, and elite travelers. While the hotel itself is not beachfront, guests enjoy exclusive access to a nearby private beach club. Nightly rates reportedly begin around $3,000 and can soar past $8,000 depending on the season and accommodations. The resort also boasts a sprawling spa, multiple fine-dining restaurants, lush gardens, and family-focused amenities like a children’s club. Notably, Season 4 marks a shift away from the series’ previous hotel partnership.
The first three seasons were filmed at Four Seasons properties as part of a marketing agreement with HBO, with Season 1 set in Hawaii, Season 2 in Sicily, and Season 3 primarily in Thailand. That partnership has since expired, giving the production team more creative freedom when choosing locations for the new chapter. Even so, Château de La Messardière may not be the only hotel featured this time around. Past seasons have relied on multiple filming locations to build the illusion of a single sprawling resort. Season 3, for instance, was centered on the Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui but incorporated several additional properties to expand the visual world of the show.
Because of this, some fans have speculated that other Riviera landmarks could still appear, including the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, which is operated by Four Seasons despite the lack of an active partnership. Whether or not additional locations are used, the choice of Saint-Tropez signals a continuation of ‘The White Lotus’ fascination with extreme wealth, leisure culture, and the interpersonal wreckage that often follows. At this stage, HBO has not announced a premiere date for Season 4, nor has the network revealed plot details. As production preparations quietly move forward, anticipation continues to build around how ‘The White Lotus’ will reinvent itself once again.
