Emotional 'Midwinter Break' trailer starring 'Persuasion' star will have you bringing out the tissues
Nick Payne had audiences moist-eyed with 'We Live in Time' starring Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh. Now, the trailer of his latest film, 'Midwinter Break', will surely see fans pull out tissues again. Starring Lesley Manville and 'Persuasion' star Ciarán Hinds, the upcoming romantic drama is based on Bernard MacLaverty's novel.
The film is directed by Polly Findlay with Guy Heeley and Floor Onrust serving as the producers, along with David Kimbangi, Ollie Madden, Sean Greenhorn, Steven Little, Dave Bishop, and James Pugh —all serving as executive producers.
The official logline reads, "Midwinter Break is a stirring meditation on faith, commitment, and the enduring power of love, as a longtime couple takes a life-changing trip to Amsterdam." The novel features both Gerry (Hinds) and Stella (Manville) trying to work on their marriage when Stella gets worried about their relationship, and we can't wait to see how the two work through their problems together! And now after watching the new trailer, we're all excited to see what Payne and MacLaverty have in store for us."
Payne's 'We Live in Time' saw Garfield play Tobias, a young man who falls in love with Pugh's Almut. The film sees the two falling in love and going through life, testing their love and resolve in the most unimaginable of ways. A24 generated quite the buzz when it handed out tissues before the movie's screening.
The latest comes on the back of Hinds joining Oscar-qualifying short film “Three Keenings” as EP. Per Variety, "Set across the rural funeral circuit of Northern Ireland, the film follows a struggling actor who takes on the role of a professional mourner. As he moves from wake to wake offering grief as a paid performance, the emotional distance he clings to begins to unravel. The film centers on the nearly-forgotten Gaelic-Celtic tradition of “Keening,” the historic practice of hired lament, but reframed through a modern lens."
'Midwinter Break' releases in theaters on February 20, 2026.
