'Harry Potter' TV series' trailer may just be around the corner as HBO drops major hint with first-look
The highly anticipated 'Harry Potter' series now has a major update, with possibly another big one in the offing. HBO Max revealed the first look at Dominic McLaughlin's young Harry in its latest Instagram post. The network also teased that the first trailer might be released on Wednesday, captioning the picture 'Tomorrow' and adding the iconic lightning bolt emoji. The image depicts the wizard approaching the Quidditch pitch in a Gryffindor cloak on a snowy day.
The series will reimagine author J.K. Rowling’s seven fantasy novels. The project is the latest in a series of eight movie adaptations that have collectively grossed over $7 billion. Each season covers one book with 'Succession' fame's Francesca Gardiner tapped as showrunner. 'Game of Thrones' veteran Mark Mylod is directing several episodes of the show. On the cast front, McLaughlin stars as the titular wizard alongside Alastair Stout as Harry’s best friend Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, and Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall round up the major names.
Katherine Parkinson plays Molly Weasley, with Tristan Harland and Gabriel Harland appearing as Fred and George. Ruari Spooner takes on Percy, while Gracie Cochrane plays Ginny. Over on the Slytherin side of things, Lox Pratt steps into Draco Malfoy's shoes. Hogwarts itself will be crowded, just like it should be. Rory Wilmot is Neville Longbottom. Leo Earley plays Seamus Finnigan. Alessia Leoni and Sienna Moosah appear as Parvati Patil and Lavender Brown. Even Dudley Dursley is accounted for, played by Amos Kitson, while Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby take on Petunia and Vernon Dursley. Bertie Carvel will portray Cornelius Fudge. Paul Whitehouse appears as Argus Filch. Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell. Louise Brealey plays Madam Hooch, and Leigh Gill is set to play Griphook.
Production on the long-awaited series is now well underway in the U.K., with a planned 2027 debut. Filming began in early summer 2025 and is expected to continue through the end of the year. After that, production will take a brief breather before moving straight into work on Season 2, which will adapt 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.' At the time of writing, there is no official release date pencilled in, and with the trailer expected to arrive this week, it's possible an official date will be announced. For now, all eight 'Harry Potter' films are available for streaming on HBO Max.
