Inside ‘The Pitt’ Season 2 soundtracks as Andrew Bird drops exclusive track for the show
'The Pitt' has many strong suits; however, the use of non-diegetic music hasn't been one of them. The HBO medical drama show created by R. Scott Gemmill has put remarkable emphasis on the use of diegetic noise, such as telephone calls, beeping monitors, and medical equipment, etc., in such a way that they blend effortlessly into establishing the busy soundscape of a perennially overflowing emergency room. The recently aired sixth episode of the HBO show, which presented a moving depiction of the hour of 12 p.m. in real time, featured something new. An original song by Andrew Bird, commissioned specifically for the show. Known as 'Need Someone', the track hauntingly conveys the essence of the narrative: the need for empathy in our day-to-day lives. In this article, we've combined a list of songs that have featured in Season 2 of 'The Pitt.'
1) Episode 01
'The Pitt' mostly depends on the use of music to accompany the episodic end credits. On the other hand, there was one track on the first episode that accompanied Dr. Robby flashing his motorcycle as he rode towards the Pittsburgh Medical Trauma Center to begin his final shift before he went away on his hiatus. The track 'Better Off Without You' by The Clark was heard playing in the background as Dr. Robby passed by an ambulance. The end credits of the first episode contained the song 'Say Yeah Yeah' by Yvonne Fair.
2) Episode 06
The sixth episode of 'The Pitt' ended with Bird's track 'Need Someone' by Bird. The multi-instrumentalist and vocalist composed the song in association with the show's composer Gavin Brivik. The acoustic ballad blends seamlessly with the lines "You need someone who's going to cry for you," which remain etched in the listener's memory. Speaking about the song's genesis, Bird commented, "I was thinking of all the hardships the characters have endured, and how if you are an empathetic, good person, you can hope people will be there for you when you pass on." The composer further added, "I love how this show champions our healthcare workers and first responders who do what they do for all the right reasons: to help those in need and who are willing to put themselves in harm's way for the greater good."
Elsewhere, the sixth episode saw the death of fan-favourite character Louie Cloverfield, who succumbed to a case of pulmonary embolism and died as a result of the complications caused by his liver cirrhosis. Dr. Robby, Dr. Langdon, and the rest of the medical professionals took a moment to observe his memory, remembering that Louie was traumatised as a result of his wife Rhonda's accidental death in a car crash. 'The Pitt' airs new episodes every Thursday on HBO Max.
