Who is Sara Cohen? ‘The Housemaid’ author reveals true identity ahead of movie sequel release
Much of the literature is replete with characters that lead a shadowy dual life, one for the world and one for themselves. However, in an interesting turn of events, a prominent, best-selling author who wrote under a pseudonym has finally announced her true identity to the world. Previously known to the world as Freida McFadden, the creator of 'The Housemaid' has been a prolific author ever since the publication of her first book. According to a USA Today exclusive, McFadden took her pen name one step further, using wigs and glasses to maintain her alternative identity in public.
Although McFadden never intended her alternate identity to become a hot topic of discussion and an open secret, the successful reception of the first 'Housemaid' movie starring Sydney Sweeney, as well as the greenlighting of a sequel and several other bestsellers, has now prompted her to come out of the shell she created for herself. McFadden has officially announced that her real name is Sara Cohen. "I'm at a point in my career when I'm tired of this being a secret. I'm tired of people debating if I'm a real person or if I'm three men," Cohen said.
She continued, "I am a real person, and I have a real identity, and I don't have anything to hide." Cohen's alter ego, McFadden, is based on reality to some extent, since she actually wears glasses. She dons a wig since she does not know of any other way to style her hair and make it look different, the popular author confessed in the same interview. She further added, "It's so much more boring than anything that happens in my books." Cohen passed as McFadden because she worked as a full-time doctor and didn't want her passion to interfere with her professional capabilities.
She explained, "My whole goal was to keep it a secret until I was (ready to) step back from my doctor job, so it wouldn't be like everyone I work with suddenly knew and it compromised my ability to do my job. But I have stepped away from my job. I'm only working like once or twice a month." Even though Cohen's colleagues eventually found out about her true identity, she stated that they were "really nice about it" and kept it a secret. Cohen also shared her own insights about her dual personality, recalling, "Even though I haven't told my real name until now, I feel like I have shared the real me all along and everything I've told them has been the truth."
