CHICO, CALIFORNIA: Aurora Regino, a California mother, has brought a lawsuit against the superintendent and school board members of the Chico Unified School District. The woman has alleged that a school employee helped her fifth-grade daughter, 11, change her identity to male, without parental consent. Regino further claimed that her daughter was living a double life as a male named 'Jaden' and was receiving school counseling on social transitioning.

Regino talked about her case with 'America’s Newsroom' on Friday, February 10, 2023. "They were talking to my daughter about different support groups in town to help her with her transition and then discussed breast binding with my daughter that I had no knowledge of," Regino told host Claudia Cowan. "I just want them to stop—stop keeping parents in the dark," Regino added, as per Fox News.

What is Parental Secrecy Policy?

The Parental Secrecy Policy "authorizes minors to make mature, potentially life-altering decisions such as what gender to identify as, what name to be called, and gender transitioning, without informing or notifying their parents," as per Washington Blade. Regino claims the district’s alleged Parental Secrecy Policy allows students to transition without their parents’ knowledge, and she’s looking to put an end to it.

Assuring the public that "Chico Unified does not have a 'Parent Secrecy Policy,' nor [does it] ever try to define a student's personal identity," the school district declined to comment on Cowan's story, as per Fox News.

In a recent meeting, the board members addressed the lawsuit claiming that they are researching the issue and consulting with state agencies. But, Regino, however, decided to maintain the lawsuit as she thinks it is needed to protect parents’ rights. "The goal is to make sure that this doesn't happen to any more families and kids," Regino said.

Currently, Regino’s daughter is seeing a different school counselor, who believes the child was manipulated. And with the help of counseling, her daughter is reportedly again identifying as female.

'Hope she wins'

Many people are supporting Regino in her lawsuit against the authorities. A user tweeted, "I wish her a successful lawsuit, she stands to win for everyone that is non-woke." "I hope she wins, schools have no business being this evolved with the students on subject of sex or sexual orientation," another added. A third user also supported her by saying, "This is a huge deal. I hope every member of the school board, the teacher and the principal gets named and sued personally for this travesty. This mother should set up a go fund me page to get support for legal fees."  Many people are furious, calling the situation a case of child abuse, a user tweeted, "Those who did that also need to be sued individually. Child abuse!!!!"
