LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Netflix struck gold with ‘Extraction’ and is hoping to garner the same level of success with the highly anticipated sequel to the 2020 movie, titled ‘Extraction 2’. The first movie in the franchise saw Chris Hemsworth playing the role of Tyler Rake, a former Australian special forces operator who started working as a Black-ops mercenary. He was hired to rescue the son of a crime lord from Bangladesh and left no stone unturned to bring the child back to his family safely.

Towards the end of the film, audiences were on the edge of their seats as Rake’s life hung in the balance after he fell into the river. However, it has been confirmed that Rake managed to survive and is poised to embark on another dangerous mission.

‘Extraction’ received a lot of praise from viewers and it didn’t take much time to become one of Netflix’s most-watched films. The streaming site will be hoping to get similar viewing spikes with the sequel as well. The first movie had an interesting premise and was filled with high-octane action sequences. Let’s take a look at the plot of the upcoming movie.

What is the plot of ‘Extraction 2’?

The official synopsis reads, “After barely surviving the events of the first movie, Rake is back as the Australian black ops mercenary, tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held.”

The trailer released by Netflix has made it clear that the sequel will be as action-packed as the first one. According to director Sam Hargrave, the second movie in the ‘Extraction’ franchise will aim to show how Rake survived and the toll that it has taken on him and those close to him. Hargrave told Netflix, “The goal was to dive deeper into the backstory of Tyler Rake and find out what makes him tick.”

On the other hand, Hemsworth recently revealed on Twitter that the movie features a jaw-dropping 21-minute-long action scene. The actor tweeted, “A single shot oner that clocks in at 21 minutes.. you heard that right. Prepare for the ride of your life!!”

In the sequel, fans can expect a lot of exhilarating action sequences which will keep them yearning for more. ‘Extraction 2’ is scheduled to hit theaters on June 16, 2023, and will also be made available on Netflix the same day.
