What are the Writers Guild of America Awards?

The Writers Guild of America Awards, also known as WGA, is the biggest award ceremony for the writers who penned some of the finest screenplays and stories for various television shows and movies. The star-studded event honors outstanding achievement for original and adapted screenplays and documentary films. It is often reported that the movies that are crowned winners during the event often go on to win an Oscar in the same category.

The inaugural ceremony took place in 1949, but the awards show was broadcast on television for the first time in 2004. Movies like ‘Bonnie and Clyde’, ‘Thelma & Louise’, ‘The Silence of the Lambs’, ‘Fargo’, ‘American Beauty’, ‘Brokeback Mountain’, ‘Inception’, ‘Parasite’ and more have been recognized at the WGA Awards over the years.

Where and when?

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic is still wreaking havoc all around the world due to which a lot of award ceremonies have pushed back their dates back and forth, including the Oscars. As soon as The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences announced that it will postpone the telecast of the highly-anticipated awards show due to the virus situation, all the other associations had to change their dates as well.

WGA announced that the ceremony has been scheduled for March 21, 2021, and will be held virtually. The guild followed the footsteps of the Golden Globes, DGA Awards, SAG Awards, and BAFTA Film Awards, which have all pushed their dates and eligibility periods amid the global health crisis.

Who are the presenters?

The initial set of presenters have not been announced as of yet. But it is reported that some of the stars from the movies and television that have been nominated at the event might be attending the event.
