With each passing episode of 'Welcome To Plathville', fans grow increasingly concerned for the wellbeing of the remaining Plath children under Kim and Barry's care. Their rules are as stringent as ever, the person dealing with the brunt of it all is Lydia, seeing that she is currently the oldest sibling living under their roof.

While Ethan, Moriah and Micah managed to find an escape route, if anything, this has made Kim and Barry come down slightly harder on Lydia in unexpected ways. Lydia, who is exploring new relationships like any normal teenager would is expected to report everything to her parents and listen to them with regards to what she should do next.

One of the major storylines this season has been the fact that Lydia has been in touch with a boy she met during a family retreat. the two have stayed in touch via text. However, Kim has heavily discouraged the relationship and has stated that until she and Barry have the chance to meet him, Lydia should not be talking to him. While Lydia agreed to this earlier on, she has continued to be in contact with him, without her parents' knowledge.

Kim, however, ended up snooping through Lydia's phone and found their conversations and took it upon herself to talk to Lydia about it with Barry. Lydia was honest about what she did and admitted that it was wrong of her to have not have told her parents about her conversation. She had her phone confiscated and even spoke about how she felt bad for betraying her parents' trust.

Fans on the other hand were livid at the way Lydia was being treated. "They’re making her feel guilty for trying to be a normal teenage girl. I see why the older kids left . #WelcomeToPlathville" tweeted a fan. "If the worst thing Lydia has ever done is ‘text a boy’ consider yourselves lucky parents. #welcometoplathville" added another. "Lydia, do not let your emotionally manipulative (gaslighting) parents make you feel guilty for your normal, healthy, individuation, evolving into an adult, process. I know, easier said than done  #welcometoplathville #plathville" agreed a fan.

"Honestly, Lydia singing scares me because countless horror films & TV series are based on a girl/daughter’s emotions & freedoms being suppressed due to religious zealot family members, school bullies, and trauma. Is the next punishment for Lydia the basement? #welcometoplathville" tweeted a user. "How the producers of #welcometoplathville can stand by and watch this poor girl being driven to madness makes my blood boil. Where is the compassion for this child @tlc ? asked a fan.
