'Welcome To Plathville': 5 strict rules Plath children have to follow while growing up on the TLC family show

TLC introduced viewers to the Plaths in 2019 and here are the rules that the family has for all the children in the household

'Welcome To Plathville' introduced viewers to the Plath family that graced the screens on TLC and allowed viewers to have a glimpse of their lifestyle on their 55-acre farm. The family consists of parents Barry and Kim Plath along with their nine children. Their oldest son, Ethan Plath recently got married to Olivia.

While the Plath children share a strong bond, while growing up, there were certain rules that they had to follow. Below are the five strict rules that the Plath family tends to follow.

1. No television 

Plath children never got a chance to watch television. In fact, the family does not own one. Parents Barry and Kim believe children can get the information they need from their surroundings rather than watching something that is shown on television. The pair takes pride in not having a television and allowing their children to educate themselves by learning and understanding what is happening around them. 

2. No video games

Plath children love sports and few of them engage in playing basketball or baseball. Their 55-acre farm allows them to have fun and play around. However, video games are out of option. Barry and Kim have enjoyed the idea of knowing that their children are having a good time outside rather than sitting inside and playing on their video games. 

At the same time, since the family consists of children age 9-21, the siblings have a lot of fun together. They have managed to learn how to enjoy the company of each other without any video games or worldly pleasures around them. 

3. No social media or computer 

Kim and Barry do not allow anyone to have computers. Even though they have a laptop at home if someone wants to use it, they have to seek permission. They may have someone sitting next to them just to see that they stick to using the laptop for something important. At the same time, not all sites are accessible to them. Kim and Barry make sure that their children are able to access only those sites that would prove to be helpful for them. 

4. No sugar or fizzy drinks 

Kim and Barry believe sugar and fizzy drinks are not good for them. They do not allow their children to have any and it so happens that none of the children know how sugar really tastes. Barry had revealed that even though their children know what coke is, they do not know how it tastes. 

The first ones to ever have coke or something sweet was Ethan who managed to taste coke after marrying Olivia. The next one was Moriah, who tasted cotton candy when she went on a trip with Olivia. Meanwhile, others tend to have fruits and vegetables grown on their farm.

5. They are homeschooled 

Plath children tend to be homeschooled. In one of the episodes of Season 1, Kim had revealed that she prefers children being homeschooled because they can be taught the things that are important. Kim takes time off her schedule to make sure all her children are working hard and studying. She believes it is the best way of teaching.
