LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The newest drama on Hulu, 'We Were the Lucky Ones', is an official adaptation of Georgia Hunter's best-selling book of the same name and is a moving reflection of the difficult path her own family took during World War II.

This eight-episode series, which is developed by showrunner Erica Lipez, explores the life of the Kurcs, a Polish Jewish family whose existence is permanently changed by the horrors of war.

The Kurcs' tenacity and will to live in spite of all obstacles throughout the horrific Holocaust are examples of the human spirit's resiliency and fortitude.

The eight-episode series focuses on the Kurc family, an apparently typical Jewish family prospering in pre-war Poland, but with the Nazi takeover, everything in their world gets destroyed.

The story painstakingly details the Kurcs' heartbreaking parting, sending them down different routes for survival. While some are forced to go into hiding within Poland, others are subjected to the horrible hardships of working in labor camps.

The stellar acting performances elevate the quality of 'We Were the Lucky Ones'

The series' excellent ensemble contributes significantly to its emotional impact by providing the plot with nuanced and compelling backing that gives the drama a realistic feel. The acting prowess is so intense that you can't help but get emotionally invested in the characters.

Joey King's portrayal of a tenacious and vivacious Halina Kurc captures the essence of a young woman fighting for her life while still supporting her family. Her depiction embodies the courage and persistence needed to live in a world gone completely upside down.

As Addy, the middle kid plagued by longing and seeking to reunite with his family, Logan Lerman gives a subtle performance.

Henry Lloyd-Hughes as the oldest Kurc sibling, Genek Kurc, uses his razor-sharp acting abilities to lend authenticity to the role, while Amit Rahav gives an authentic portrayal as Jakob Kurc. Because of his resourcefulness, Jakob makes every effort to endure the terrible period.

I find Hadas Yaron's portrayal of Mila Kurc to be the most compelling because it captures her complex and raw emotional spectrum. Mila does everything in her power to ensure her little daughter's survival after discovering that her husband is missing in action.

Her portrayal demonstrates the strength of maternal love even in the face of unfathomable hardships.

'We Were the Lucky Ones' effectively confronts history's darkest chapter

The series' showrunner, Erica Lipez, deftly combines the many tales, making for an engaging narrative in spite of the abrupt changes in location and time.

Even if the frame sometimes darkens, this is understandable given that it serves as a deliberate attempt to draw attention to the horrors the protagonists were experiencing.

The series' technical features are impressive, with great care taken to recreate the war engulfed environment. Viewers are drawn into the characters' surroundings by the production design and wardrobe choices, which take them back in time.

The story's emotional effect is increased by the cinematography, which depicts both the beauty and the tragedies of the era.

'We Were the Lucky Ones' tackles the darkest periods of human history and doesn't hold back when describing its brutality; this is precisely what sets the series apart from other shows and makes it such a powerful and essential watch.

It serves as a reminder of the human spirit's resiliency, and the value of hope, even in the face of unfathomable despair.
