David Simon is known for giving the world one of the best crime drama series in 'The Wire'. It was a side to Baltimore the world hadn't seen. Now, Simon is back with George Pelecanos with 'We Own This City', another HBO drama — this one's a limited series starring 'Punisher' star Jon Bernthal. For those unaware, the series is based on the true story of the corrupt cop force in the 21st century. The six-episode series follows the Gun Trace Task Force (GTTF) of Baltimore led by Wayne Jenkins (Bernthal).
According to The Baltimore Sun, members of this once-respected and highly decorated force were convicted on federal racketeering charges following an in-depth investigation that brought to light years of robbery, extortion, and other crimes committed. The official synopsis reads, "Executive produced by George Pelecanos (The Deuce) and David Simon (The Wire) -- and based on the book by Baltimore Sun reporter Justin Fenton -- We Own This City is a six-hour, limited series chronicling the rise and fall of the Baltimore Police Department's Gun Trace Task Force. It examines the corruption and moral collapse that befell an American city in which the policies of drug prohibition and mass arrest were championed at the expense of actual police work."
Who's in the cast of the HBO drama?
Jon Bernthal stars as Sgt Wayne Jenkins, the central figure in the Baltimore Police Department's (BPD) Gun Trace Task Force (GTTF). Also starring are Wunmi Mosaku as Nicole Steele, an attorney assigned to the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice, Jamie Hector as Sean M. Suiter, a BPD homicide detective caught up in the GTTF case, McKinley Belcher III as Momodu "G Money" Gondo, a BPD veteran and member of the GTTF, Darrell Britt-Gibson as Jemell Rayam, a BPD officer involved in the GTTF, Josh Charles as Daniel Hersl, a BPD officer involved in the GTTF, along with Dagmara Domińczyk as Erika Jensen, an FBI agent who investigated the GTTF.
