Thousands of people on Twitter are backing Meghan Markle with the hashtag "#WeLoveYouMeghan" after the Duchess opened up about the hardships of being in the media spotlight following her marriage with Prince Harry and motherhood.

Markle, in an interview for an ITV documentary, revealed she has found it difficult to cope with media scrutiny after getting married and giving birth. An emotional Markle said in a cracked voice, "Not many people have asked if I'm ok."

Shortly after the release of the clip, "#WeLoveYouMeghan" began trending on Twitter as tens and thousands of users offered her positive messages in the wake of recent media scrutiny. The hashtag reportedly after British author Greg Hogben urged people to offer their support to the former actress.

Reports state that more than 70,000 people have used the hashtag since it was created. Some accounts on Twitter even began circulating the Duchess' address so that her supporters could write to her words of encouragement.

The upcoming ITV documentary, which followed Markle and Prince Harry on their recent visit to southern Africa, includes an interview with ITN News At Ten anchor Tom Bradby. The anchor when asked the Duchess about her impact of intense public scrutiny on her "physical and mental health" and how Harry is being "protective" of her after what happened to his mother Diana, she replied with: "Look, any woman especially when they are pregnant you're really vulnerable and so that was made really challenging, and then when you have a new born – you know… And especially as a woman, it's a lot. So you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom or trying to be a newlywed it's, well…'

"Also thank you for asking, because not many people have asked if I'm OK. But it's a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes," Markle added.

Markle's emotional interview comes after months of media speculation and controversy surrounding her and her husband Harry. The royal couple, over the past year, has received criticism for myriad issues, including their privacy demands over Archie's christening, their use of private jets, and Meghan's Wimbledon appearance when she banned fans from taking pictures of her.

The Sussex family, over two weeks ago, also waged a war on the media as they announced that they were filing a lawsuit against the Daily Mail over its publication of Markle's father's private letters.
