Freshman Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has backed Meghan Markle in the Sussexes campaign against media scrutiny, saying "sudden prominence is a very dehumanizing experience." The New York representative was referring to Markle's emotional interview for an upcoming documentary where she was moved close to tears while talking about her "struggle" at being in the media spotlight after her marriage with Prince Harry.

Markle, in an interview for the ITV documentary, revealed she has found it difficult to cope with media scrutiny after getting married and giving birth. She said "not many people have asked if I'm ok" with a cracked voice.

AOC supported the Duchess in a tweet on Friday, saying: "Sudden prominence is a very dehumanizing experience. There’s a part of your life that you lose, & it later dawns on you that you’ll never get it back. The people who treat you like a human make all the difference."

Markle's emotional interview comes after months of media speculation and controversy surrounding her and her husband Harry. The royal couple, over the past year, has received criticism for myriad issues, including their privacy demands over Archie's christening, their use of private jets, and Meghan's Wimbledon appearance when she banned fans from taking pictures of her.

The Sussex family, over two weeks ago, also waged a war on the media as they announced that they were filing a lawsuit against the Daily Mail over its publication of Markle's father's private letters.

Reports state that the letters were released by Thomas Markle in an interview, where he had said that he was hurt by comments made by the Duchess' friends in an article published by People magazine. The 75-year-old said that although he did not intend to share the letter sent by Meghan publicly, he was forced to do so after the People article "mischaracterized" him." The royal couple has also filed a suit against the Sun and the now-defunct News of the World .
