‘Vikings’ Season 6 Episode 9 predictions come true; what will Ivar and Hvitserk’s unexpected meeting lead to?

When we saw the preview of ‘Resurrection’, we had a hunch that after being banished from Kattegat, Hvitserk might end up encountering Ivar, as he wanders through the forest and that’s exactly what happened. But what could this result in is yet another theory

So it happened! Just as we had predicted, the younger Lothbrok brothers bump into each other in the middle of a raid. Call it surprise, destiny, expectations coming true, or sheer coincidence, you cannot ignore the fact that after a good deal of time, Ivar the Boneless and Hvitserk came face to face.

Ever since the great battle of Kattegat, Hvitserk has been haunted by Ivar’s image, so much so, it led him through an ugly emotional spiral, making him demented and delusional. His hatred for his younger brother took him off the edge and made him kill Lagertha, although in his defense, he avenged his mother’s (Auslaug) death. But perhaps after his ultimate act, Hvitserk had some revelations. When Bjorn Ironside was about to punish him on a stake (but didn’t), he came to terms with his actions, his fallen self.

So, when he got banished from the town and went out on his own, he has been seeking something, we cannot say for sure what. Perhaps he was seeking closure and finally found a way to get it. He met Ivar, in the middle of a raid, when Bjorn’s men attacked the Rus army camp, which was led by Ivar. When both the parties retreated, the long lost brothers stood face to face. Here’s where things get more interesting.

You would expect that after all that Hvitserk had gone through, he would attack Ivar at the very instant of seeing him in person. But he didn’t. Nor does Ivar react the way you would expect him to. And that is more surprising than anything else in this episode. Why you may ask! If we understand these two men correctly, each of their characters has gone through a lot lately. Ivar has mellowed down while being in lockdown at Oleg’s kingdom. That entire period would have made him process his actions, making him a little bit mature than he was.

As far as Hvitserk is concerned, the entire episode of his delusional state, having visions of Ivar and killing Lagertha in a state of hallucination, would have probably come to an end, as soon as he was about to die. Now that he is on his own, away from the madness, he is trying to think with clarity.

So, when the two brothers met, there was no mud-slinging. Rather, they had a quiet, non-verbal communication.

Ivar’s reaction to his long-lost sibling is strange, comforting and yet a tad scary. Knowing him, it could all be a ruse to get inside information on the present state of Kattegat. And Hvitserk had always been weaker with Ivar.

So, what could ensue from this unexpected, surprise meeting? We say that the chance of them teaming up is a lot more likely than them parting ways again. Guess, we will have to wait and watch. And if it comes true, well, let’s just say, that our intuitions are just turning out to be on the point!

‘Vikings’ Season 6 airs every Wednesday at 10 pm/9c, only on History Channel.
