Who is Vanessa Kirby dating? Why 'Pieces of a Woman' actor split with Callum Turner after 4 years
'The Crown's Vanessa Kirby is teaming up with Shia LaBeouf for the upcoming Kornél Mundruczó-directed 'Pieces of a Woman', which has Martin Scorcese onboard as an executive producer. The film follows a couple whose home birth goes horribly wrong, and the pregnant Marth (Kirby) has to cope with the loss of their daughter. Painful and heartbreaking just as the name suggests, the film receives its theatrical release on Amazon Prime shortly after LaBeouf was embroiled in a sexual battery lawsuit filed by his ex FKA Twigs. Although musician Sia too attested to LaBeouf tricking her into an adulterous relationship, the actor's current relationship with Margaret Qualley is in full bloom. And that inevitably raises the question about his 'Pieces of a Woman' co-star Kirby's relationship status. The 'Mission Impossible: Fallout' actor is currently single following split from longterm actor-boyfriend Callum Turner, whom she once called her 'best friend'. What led to the split then?
Kirby and Turner met in 2014 as co-stars; the two were working on the post-war British comedy flick 'Queen & Country' and reportedly became a couple in 2015. Their romance was however mostly a secret for the next two years, and it is not until Kirby began working on 'Mission Impossible: Fallout' that reports of her and Turner being together circulated. The reveal was also enveloped in controversy when tabloids snapped 'The Crown's Princess Margaret kissing co-star Tom Cruise on the sets of the action thriller film.
It was only when gossip tabloids speculated that she was dating Cruise that Kirby finally addressed her relationship with then-beau-Turner. In an attempt to quash the 'ludicrous' rumours, Kirby told Daily Mail: "There’s literally zero truth in it. I’ve been in a relationship for two years!" She added: "The rumours came out after I’d met Tom, once, in a roomful of people. We hadn’t started filming, and all of a sudden we’re getting married! It’s so bizarre. My boyfriend found it hilarious." Months later she again addressed the 'hilarious' incident in a Marie Claire interview saying: "The most disconcerting thing was the people I didn’t think would believe it did – and they were texting my boyfriend, asking him, 'Are you OK?'" According to her, Turner was ‘just completely wonderful’. She gushed: "He’s my best friend."
That was three years before thunder struck the duo's romance and in February of 2020, they called their four-year relationship off. While neither of them has addressed the split in the media, insiders told The Sun how the couple -- both 'rising stars' at the time -- had 'gradually grown apart'. "Vanessa and Callum are both rising stars in the acting world and in the last few years they have been flooded with offers," a source told the publication, explaining: "But as their careers have taken off, their relationship has suffered and they have gradually grown apart. It’s very sad as they were once so close." They said: "Last year they made the difficult decision to go their separate ways and they both think its for the best. It’s all very amicable – things just weren’t working out."
Kirby had been busy filming 'Mission: Impossible: Fallout' in 2018, and in 2019, she was caught up with 'Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw'. Turner, on the other hand, was busy with the Anna Taylor Joy starring 2020 adaptation of Jane Austen’s 'Emma' that hit UK on February 14 this year. He followed it up with the BBC1 conspiracy thriller 'The Capture', after already starring in 2018’s 'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald'. As of The Sun's February reports, Kirby had attended the 2020 Baftas without her ex-beau two weeks ago. The actress is currently single, gearing up for the intense disturbia her character Martha goes through in 'Pieces of a Woman' that drops on Netflix on Thursday, January 7, 2021.
