What is Ty Pennington's net worth? Here's how Emmy Award-winning host channeled ADHD issues into his work
Watching home makeover shows are the easiest way for an instant serotonin boost. Between heartwarming stories, beautiful designs and awesome demolitions (we've all wanted to take a sledgehammer to drywall, let's be honest), home makeover shows offer a ton of inspiration and ideas to viewers.
However, with most of these shows, they're often only as good as their host. The hosts of these shows really have to bring in the charisma and charm — it is what ropes people in. Looking back at fantastic home makeover shows, it's impossible not to give credit to the man himself, Ty Pennington.

'Rock The Block': Who do you think will win the competition?
If you've been watching your fair share of these shows, then Ty Pennington is a name and face you'll instantly recognize. His contagious energy and vibe are hard to miss — the man knows how to get people excited and thrilled about renovating. However, if you're new to the scene and not quite sure who he is, consider this an introduction to the legendary host himself.
He began his career in 2003
Before his TV career, Pennington was a model, having worked with brands like J Crew, Swatch, Diet Coke, Levi's and Sprite. His big break came in 2003 when he was cast as the host of TLC's 'Trading Spaces'. Being a skilled carpenter and a set designer (he worked on the set of 'Leaving Las Vegas' in 1995), Pennington was a natural on TV and the show did exceptionally well.
In 2003, ABC cast him as the led of 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' which was an instant hit and even went on to win two Emmy Awards (in 2005 and 2006), making Pennington a household name.
Post this, Pennington became synonymous with home makeovers itself, landing a Sears endorsement and shows like 'Ty's Great British Adventure' to a lifestyle-based talk show called the 'The Revolution' and most recently, 'Ty Breaker' a show by HGTV that features him helping families renovate their homes.
From ADHD to a DUI, he's had a few personal struggles
Pennington has been very vocal about his struggles with adult ADHD, being one of the few celebrities that talk about the issue so openly, advocating for the same. He was learned to channel the same correctly into his work, ultimately making this an aspect of him that fans have come to love.
According to a report by Distractify, he has also worked with Shire pharmaceuticals to establish a scholarship of $10,000 for students with ADHD at the Savannah College of Art and Design, Atlanta (located in his hometown). While ADHD is something he's worked through, his brush with alcohol abuse is something that haunts him.
According to a report by The List, Pennington was arrested for drinking under the influence on May 5, 2007. His blood-alcohol level was 0.14 percent, which resulted in him receiving a DUI. He has addressed the incident: "I made an error in judgment... I could have jeopardized the lives of others and I am grateful there was no accident or harm done to anyone. This was my wake-up call." He said, which led him on the path of self-reformation.
Ty Pennington's net worth
Pennington considers himself to be a jack of all traders and we agree. Apart from his successful TV career, he's collaborated with companies like Howard Miller and Sears, to launch his own range of furniture and decor. He's even designed a line of flooring for Lumber Liquidators.
Apart from this, he's also an author, having written two books — 'Good Design Can Change Your Life' and 'Ty’s Tricks'. The latter happens to be a New York Times Best Seller. According to Wide Open Country, Pennington's net worth is currently $12 million.
Pennington is all set to host 'Rock The Block' Season 2, as eight of HGTV's biggest names in home renovation and design pair up in teams of two to completely transform identical three-story suburban properties in just one month.
