ENNIS, ALASKA: 'True Detective' Night Country' streaming on HBO has hooked the audience with its engaging and suspenseful plot and seamless weaving of supernatural elements.
Set in a fictional town, the show follows the story of Chief Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Trooper Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) who reunite to solve the mysterious case of Tsalal researchers.
As they dive deep into the investigation, secrets of the town begin to emerge. The case not only seems to share a connection with the brutal murder of Annie Kowtok six years ago but also suggests that the presence of supernatural forces has taken power over the air of Ennis.
Liz Danvers finds new clues in Annie Kowtok's video
In the previous episode, Liz asked Officer Peter Prior (Finn Bennett) to hack Annie's. As the phone is unlocked, a video is found that Annie shot before she was killed.
She is heard saying, "My name is Annie Kowtok. If anything happens to me, please.." The video abruptly ends with Annie screaming while the camera is turned towards the wall.
Liz ends up watching the video on a loop as her angry stepdaughter, Leah Danvers, leaves her alone on Christmas Eve. Liz realizes that the video was filmed in an ice cave where she was killed and her body was then dumped in town. Some fossil-like structures are also noticed on the wall in Annie's video.
Liz Danvers learns about Ice caves
After discovering new clues in the video, Danvers and Navarro pay to visit Adam Bryce at his residence. After a close examination of the footage, he mentions that the fossils are prehistoric whale bones that can be found in ice caves bordering the Brooks Range.
Adam warns that those Ice caves are death traps as the sensitive landscape claimed several lives in the past. A quick Google search reveals the name of Otis Heis who was responsible for mapping the ice caves.
The episode highlights Danvers' desire to visit the ice caves that have been closed for quite some time now. Will those caves unravel the deep-buried secrets of Ennis? Will Danvers succeed in solving the murder cases of Annie and the researchers? We hope to find the answers in upcoming episodes.
