From Travis' ghost to Yellow King: 'True Detective: Night Country' teases a paranormal twist with chilling elements
ENNIS, ALASKA: While HBO has rolled out three episodes of 'True Detective: Night Country' so far, viewers are confused about what direction is the show heading! The events in the latest episode dropped strong hints that it might out to be a supernatural thriller.
'True Detective: Night Country' is the fourth season of HBO's popular anthology crime series, 'True Detective'.
'True Detective: Night Country' might be a paranormal show
Though the makers haven't marketed it as a paranormal show, the spooky elements have forced the viewers to think that it is!
The superstitions and spiritual beliefs of the people of Ennis, the appearance of Travis' ghost guiding Rose Aguineau, the recurring spiral symbol, and the unexplained mysterious death of the researchers point towards the supernatural forces taking over the remote town of Alaska.
There's possibly no rational explanation for a lot of things happening in the series if we don't bracket them as paranormal.
Without delving deep into the details, Issa Lopez in a conversation with Inverse, stated, “I said directly, I would bring back the width of the supernatural in this season. And I did this by setting it in a place where the veil between this world and other things gets thin.”
Even the supernatural theme of the series is what drew Jodie Foster's attention. In an interview with The Wrap, the actress said, “The script just gripped me and I saw such resonance and so many things that I wanted to talk about — grief and how the dead walk among us."
What could be the supernatural twist in 'True Detective: Night Country'?
When Liz Danvers questions Dr Anders Lund, one of the survivors, he says, "We've woke her. She's awake. And now, she is out on the ice. She came for us in the dark."
In Episode 2, while describing the spiral, Rose says to Navarro, “It’s old, Missy. Older than Ennis. Older than the ice, probably.”
Incidents as such make us speculate that the present-day events may be tied to the mythological history of Alaska. As per certain fan theories, the current season might draw a connection with Sedna, the Inuit deity of the sea.
It might also get interwoven with the supernatural elements of Season 1, addressing the mysteries of Yellow King.
'True Detective: Night Country', starring Jodie Foster and Kali Reis, streams on HBO.
