NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: The Met Gala is an annual fundraiser for the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The Costume Institute Gala is also known as the Met Ball. Being one of the major fashion events of the year, it attracts a wide spectrum of celebrities and guests, including actresses, musicians, models, and fashion designers.

The Met Gala is considered to be so iconic because it brings together the worlds of art, fashion, and pop culture in one place. Each year, the event has a different theme, which has ranged from "Camp: Notes on Fashion" to "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination". The themes challenge guests to dress in a way that reflects the theme or to create a unique outfit that stands out. Many designers spend months planning their outfits for the event, creating show-stopping looks, and making fashion statements that will be remembered for years.

Overall, the Met Gala is a cultural phenomenon that draws global attention due to its blend of celebrities, fashion, and philanthropy, as well as its capacity to set trends and push limits in the fashion industry. Let us talk about 5 most iconic Met Gala looks of all time:

Rihanna is said to be the queen of the Met Gala, her collaborations with various designers have led to some of the most iconic and unforgettable ensembles at the Met Gala. As a style icon, she is willing and able to pull off some truly creative pieces and has made several bold and memorable fashion choices at the event. She has consistently pushed boundaries and taken risks with her outfits, and her looks have often been the talk of the town. Additionally, designers love her and are ready to go the extra mile to have her turn up in their creations.

One of Rihanna's most iconic looks was when she wore a yellow gown by Chinese designer Guo Pei that featured a train so long it took four people to carry it. The dramatic look instantly became a social media sensation.

2. Beyoncé in 2016

Queen Bey paid homage to the evening's theme—“Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology”—with a latex dress that left little to the imagination. Riccardo Tisci, creative director of Givenchy, designed the latex puffy sleeves flesh tone gown that trailed behind Bey as she made her long-awaited solo red carpet entrance. The appearance nearly dripped off her and seemed like an extension of her latex-worked tour clothes, which were embellished with a starburst of beadwork that resembled a constellation.

3. Lady Gaga in 2019

Gaga arrived at the Met Gala in four distinct Brandon Maxwell outfits, each one more extravagant than the last. The standout look was a hot-pink gown that featured a gigantic parachute-style bow. Gaga walked from 84th and Madison to the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art with five dancers, makeup artist Sarah Tanno, and her personal photographer on hand to film every move in a magnificent live performance. The dramatic voyage kicked off the night and pleased observers as she strutted her way into the arena, changing costumes four times.

4. Zendaya in 2019

Zendaya made a statement on the pink carpet with her Cinderella-inspired Tommy Hilfiger ball gown. The dress, light blue in color with matching gloves, even lit up from within to give the impression of a magic spell being cast.

The dress reportedly took over 250 hours to create and was adorned with over 20,000 Swarovski crystals. But it wasn't just the gown that made Zendaya's look memorable. She arrived at the event with a team of people holding what appeared to be a glass slipper to complete her fairy tale look.

Zendaya's hairstylist, Ursula Stephen, also played a significant role in the look. Inspired by the character, she created a blond wig that closely resembled Cinderella's iconic updo. To complete the look, Zendaya wore simple makeup, including blue eyeshadow to match her dress.

Overall, Zendaya's 2019 Met Gala look was widely praised, with many calling it one of the best of the night. Her attention to detail and commitment to the theme of the event made for a memorable and magical red carpet-moment. Her stylist, Law Roach, dressed as her fairy godmother and carried a wand to light up her dress. How Beautiful!!

5. Blake Lively in 2022

No one does the Met Gala like fashion goddess Blake Lively.  Blake boldly made her arrival in a sweeping, dramatic copper gown with a massive bow on her right hip. Once she was in front of the cameras, a team of assistants unraveled the metallic leather fabric at the waist, revealing a green look underneath meant to reference the Statue of Liberty for the theme that year:  "In America: An Anthology of Fashion."

With a dash of sparkle and a hint of New York City glamour, Blake Lively's final look left jaws dropping. Her dress was adorned with dazzling crystals and showcased stunning art deco architecture inspired by the iconic Empire State Building. The train of her gown was a masterpiece in its own right, featuring a constellation woven from the history of Grand Central Station. Every detail was thoughtfully crafted to pay homage to the Big Apple.
