The 'Wally Cleaver' of America passed away at the age of 77 on Wednesday. In May 2022, Tony Dow was diagnosed with cancer. News of the ' Leave it to Beaver' actor's passing comes one day after a premature announcement of his death. Dow was under hospice over the last week. He had been undergoing various treatments over the last few months to battle cancer.

On Tuesday, Dow’s family inaccurately announced that the actor had died. But later that day, it was revealed that he was still alive. His wife, Lauren Shulkind, mistakenly notified the actor’s management team that he was dead. TMZ reported that the statement of Tony's death, which was posted on his official Facebook page Tuesday morning has now been removed. It stated, "We spoke with Tony's manager who says Tony's wife, Lauren, who is very distraught, believed her husband was dead and told his management." The official statement confirming his death has been now released on his Facebook page, which says, “We have received confirmation from Christopher, Tony’s son, that Tony passed away earlier this morning, with his loving family at his side to see him through this journey.” Hollywood recently mourned the deaths of Bob Rafelson and Paul Sorvino in the month of June and Dow's death has only deepened the sorrow.

Lauren Shulkind and Tony Dow have been one of the most talked about couples. They had been together for more than 42 years and the couple recently celebrated their 42nd Wedding anniversary on June 20 before Dow's demise. He is survived by his wife, his son Christopher, his daughter-in-law Melissa, his granddaughter Tyla, his brother Dion, and sister-in-law Judy. “Words cannot express how much we will all feel his absence but will cherish the memories he left to each and every one of us,” his family said in the statement, adding, “We respectfully ask that everyone give the family privacy in their time of mourning.” His son, Christopher also added, "Although this is a very sad day, I have comfort and peace that he is in a better place. He was the best Dad anyone could ask for. He was my coach, my mentor, my voice of reason, my best friend, my best man in my wedding, and my hero. My wife said something powerful and shows the kind of man he was. She said: ‘Tony was such a kind man. He had such a huge heart and I’ve never heard Tony say a bad or negative thing about anyone.'" Dow, who rose to fame through the sitcom ' Leave it to Beaver', also had acting roles in 'My Three Sons,' 'Lassie,' 'Murder', 'She Wrote' and 'Charles in Charge'.

Fans are now sending tributes to remember their favorite star. One of the users tweeted, "#RIP Tony Dow....America's big brother." Another fan opined, "Tony Dow has passed away. Thanks for the Wonderful Memories, Wally... R.I.P." Later, 'Dead Man's Island' actress, Mogan Fairchild, tweeted " #OnMyWalk to say goodbye to a wonderful man and terrific icon Tony Dow. I didn’t know last fall when we took this pic with ⁦@TheJerryMathers⁩ that it would be the last time saw him. Lovely gentleman! #RIPTonyDow"
